Meeting Nugbu

The knock on the door came quicker than Elizabeth had suspected. She had sent for the Orc, Nugbu, to get his account of what had happened and find out if he had somewhere to go.

She invited the Orc in, he seemed a little surprised by the Orc sized chair despite Cronk living there. The Orc gave a retelling of what happened in only a way an Orc could. Elizabeth listened and took notes.

Nugbu had thought he was answering a job for guards, but it was a trick by Lamaire to get Orcs to experiment on. The last part wasn't said by the Orc but also not difficult to figure out.

“You said the doctor injected a rat, who became much larger and vicious. Then you were injected with the same serum, and nothing happened?” Elizabeth just wanted to make sure she understood correctly.

“Yes, Nugbu got shot - no change.” The Orc explained.

“How many shots did the doctor give you?” The Eldren asked.

“Two large needles.”

Elizabeth sighed, she couldn't let Nugbu go, clearly he was immune or it hadn't even enough of the serum but either way Dr. Jackal would likely need the Orc around, maybe just his blood to experiment. But he was a piece to this never ending puzzle.

“When you are able to leave, do you have somewhere to go?” Elizabeth asked.

“No,” Nugbu shook his head. “Family very far. Too far.”

“I am going to have some of the servants make up one of the sitting rooms for you. I am sorry I do not have another Orc sized bed for you, but the servants will do their best to make you comfortable. If you need anything please ask one of them or myself.” Elizabeth said. “I have other things to attend to right now. Thank you for your time.”

Two Orcs now living under her roof, temporarily, but Elizabeth couldn't wait for her noisy neighbor to find that out.
