A few minutes later he exited the lift and ran to the turret, as the
Space Eagles had left their hangars, and the first shots were about to
be fired and Eric hated to be late.
He turned and was about to enter the turret when he felt a blow to his
head and he collapsed. When he looked up, he saw the last face he
expected to see - one he had almost forgotten about.

"Hi darling."
She punched him again.
"How have you been?"
She hit him a third time.
"I'm really sorry, Rose, but you know why I had to go."
"It was our wedding day you smegawful bastard!"
"I had to try to save my brother!"
"You left me at the smeegin altar, you smegging smeg of a smegscum!"
"Then I had to try to avenge his murder."
She punched him a fourth time, and Eric's head slammed against the
floor again.
He woke up three seconds later when a bucketful of freezing water with
ice in it landed on his face. Eric gulped for air.
"Do you know how long it took me to find you?"
"Well, it's been a year since I went to Ganymede..." Eric said.
"Except after a month I had to stop for a while."
"Why?" Eric asked.
"Because I found out I was pregnant. Yes, you have a son."
Eric was in shock. Yes, he had been looking forward to having a
family, but that was before he had to go to Ganymede to try and rescue
his brother from the biggest gangster this side of Pluto. When he
arrived in Ganymede, his brother was already murdered, and he had
spent 6 months in Ganymede as a PI, trying to take down the mobster,
until it became to rough for him and he fled the moon, joining the
crew of the BD in desperation.
"After I gave birth, I found out where you had been in Ganymede, and
put Dirty Joe behind bars."
Eric was shocked again, as Dirty Joe was the vile gangster who had
murdered his brother and nearly killed him.
"What took me the most time was discovering how you left Ganymede. I
scrawled through the port records of Ganymede and came across a list
of ships that had docked on the date you left, and as soon as I saw a
JMC vessel, I knew that was it. My feelings were confirmed later when
I hacked into the JMC records and found your name. You stupid idiot,
you didn't even use an alias!"
Rose grabbed Eric by the wrist and pulled him up, and Eric stumbled to
the nearest seat at the turret.
"That's my seat, smegscum." Rose scowled, and Eric collapsed into the
next seat for the B turret, and grabbed a flask from his belt and
drank half, before Rose grabed it and smelt the contents.
"Don't drink so much when you're working!" Rose shouted, and finished
the drink.
"You're welcome." Muttered Eric when she finished his drink.
"Thanks." Rose flashed him a smile as the klaxxons started to sound,
and put a photo of herself and Jayson, her 3-month old son on the wall
separating the A & B turrets.
