Stubbornness Is A Killer

Who: Amber, Trisees, Tara, Keto, Vanessa
Where: New Wales
When: After Worser and Worserer
===============================
<<SNIP>>
A red stain was already beginning to cover Keto's chest, the
unfortunate shot having caught him just under the left arm.
"...ne," he managed, and fell forwards
<<END SNIP>>
Trisees looked down at the body of Keto, a large red wound on his back
indicating that the projectile had passed through his chest. Then he
looked over at Tara, currently lying and dying on the stretcher. Then
he looked at Amber who stood open mouthed staring at the body of Keto.
Then he sighed.
"One of those days..." he said to himself.
"YOU!" he shouted at Amber. "Don't just stand there, get some of
those bandages and wrap them around Keto's chest. Then I want you to
apply some serious pressure to his wound. I want you to hold it there
on his chest and NOT move. I am getting the Craft we came down on."
"What?" she repeated.
"DON'T make me tell you again, just do what I said!" He gave Tara a
quick look over to make sure she'd survive his being gone, checked
Keto, whom Amber was now tending to, and vanished into the undergrowth.
Amber mumbled under her breath and yelled at the top of her voice in
Hymie at her ship, which took off and flew back to the BD on auto
pilot. Whilst this caused several of the fighting groups to stop
fighting, it also gave Trisees the oppertunity to get to the ship
withough dying. Amber pressed down on Keto's wound, venting all her
anger at both of the idiots who were trying to help her mother.
Trisees ran through the thick growth towards the ship. He thanked his
good thinking to have parked it so close to the accident site and was
almost relieved when a few seconds later he stumbled upon the smashed
and barely functioning Blue Midget.
Getting into it, he prepped the entry room to receive two dying people
and started up the engine, flying it as close to the accident site as
he could.
Touching down, he disembarked to see Amber still holding Keto's wound
and Tara lying, near death on the stretcher.
"Is he still breathing?" he asked.
"Why dont you come down here and find out," she growled at the
scientist/surgeon. She shifted her weight so that her other arm was
applying the most pressure, giving the one that was now dead a chance
to get some feeling back.
"Now is not the time to be getting tetchy at me young miss. I need
your full cooperation if I am to have a chance at saving your mother
and Charles here."
He sighed hurried over to Tara. She seemed to be in need most of
assistance, and grabbing the stretcher, he pushed it onto the Blue
Midget, securing it inside the entry room. Then, grabbing the Jupiter
Mining Core standard makeshift stretcher that was usually found in all
issue Blue Midget stores, he ran to Keto.
Or would have if the stretcher had been present.
"Budget cuts," he muttered, before taking hold of one half of a table
and pulling it out with him.
"You are going to help me put Keto on this table, and then you are
going to help me take him inside the midget. Understood?"
Amber wanted very much at this moment to punch Trisees in the face.
However, this would neither be constructive, or save her mother so she
settled for cursing him to the seven levels of hell in bug.
"Sir, yes sir, Mr Cranky Pants. You sure we won't get shot doing
this?" she said, trying to annoy him a little bit.
"Despite my wishing you were, I'd rather not have to treat three
people. Now calm down lass. You are not helping matters."
He moved the table to the unconscious Keto's side.
"We are going to have to do this fast. I need to get both of them to
the medibay and quickly. Grab hold of his feet and when I say lift,
lift."
Amber growled and bent down as Trisees did the same. They each
secured a grip on the chief of medicine's body and looked at each other.
"Ok, 1, 2, 3, LIFT!"
They lifted Keto up swiftly and soundly, laying him gently along on
the table.
"Now we get this table inside the midget," Trisees continued.
Amber looked out of the doorway of the medi-shuttle and surveyed the
destruction. Personally, she hoped the fool who started all this got
hung drawn and quartered. She took a grip on the upturned table come
strecher and looked Trisees in the eye. The only way to save her mum
was to get off this plannet.
"On three." She said and braced herself for the lift, she was fast,
not strong. "One.... Two.... Three!" She heaved the table with the
heavy lump that was Keto's unconsious body on it and backed down the
embarkation ramp.
"You're not coming back to the Blue Dwarf with me?" Trisees asked as
Amber walked down the ramp.
Amber shot him a condescending glance and shifted the weight of the
table.
"Do you see anyone else here, able or willing to help you? You stupid
fool."
"I don't know why I bother," muttered Trisees frowning. "Look,
perhaps you'd be willing to save your own mother? I really don't have
to do this. I'm a science officer, not a doctor. If you really want
to be that way, I could just leave you to it."
"I am tired of your self indulgent bull smeg!" Amber said, finally
snapping and unleashing a torrent of abuse at Trisees that would have
been physical had she not been holding Keto's stretcher.
Trisees grinned. "Fine. Save her yourself."
He let go of the table and walked down the ramp, past Amber and down
onto the floor of the accident site.
Keto, twitching for a second as he came back to semi-consciousness,
muttered something not quite audible about unreliable staff and the
need to stop bleeding. Unfortunately, Amber and Trisees were too
preoccupied to notice, and he faded back into oblivion.
Amber rolled her eyes and recalled a part of her that was long dead.
She got out her gun and aimed it at Trisees head, making sure that he
heard the click.
"Help me carry him you son of a bi..." She was cut off as a stray
gunshot narrowly missed Trisees ear.
"Quite frankly I prefer my chances down here with these people. You
don't frighten me, and I will NOT be coerced by some ridiculous
youngster who thinks she's in control!" He turned away.
"I am Lawrence Trisees, not some mindless lackey."
For a second it looked like things were going to go badly. Well,
worse. Okay, hellish. As Trisees made a move to walk away, Amber's
eyes narrowed and her finger tightened on the trigger.
Had Keto still been conscious, he might have appreciated the irony of
what happened next. His life was saved...by Vanessa.
"Where the hell is Keto?" came a yell, and both Trisees and Amber spun
around, Amber taking her gun aim off Trisees, to see the young medic
hologram striding around the side of the Blue Midget not ten metres
away, "I'm trying to deal with triage for *everybody* on this planet
and it's just not..."
She froze as she lay eyes on the stretchers containing Tara and Keto,
then her gaze flicked upwards to where Amber and Trisees stood, taking
in the gun and Trisees' distance away from the bodies.
"We need to get them back to the Dwarf," she said levelly after a
moment. Amber nodded.
"But," continued Vanessa, glaring at the pair of them, "Instead of
doing this, you were going to shoot him and YOU," pointing at Trisees,
"Were just going to WALK AWAY!?"
"I remember you," said Trisees, frowning, "You were the annoying one,
weren't you?"
"GET THESE BODIES INTO THAT SHIP RIGHT NOW!" shouted Vanessa, stepping
forwards and grabbing the front end of Tara's stretcher, "Come on,
help me!"
Trisees looked at Vanessa as she took the table where he'd been
previously standing. He watched half heartedly as they dissappeared
inside the Blue Midget.
"I don't know why on earth I ever stayed on board. Shouted at all day
by insubordinates. And I bet they expect me to fly this thing back to
the blue dwarf too."
He stood perfectly still, arms folded waiting for the inevitable shriek.
"Trisees where are you?" called Vanessa from the doorway. "Get up
here and get us back to the ship!"
"I'm trying to see the incentive here," he said, angrily. "I don't
particularly enjoy being verbally bashed if innocent. Call me crazy."
"You're crazy," muttered Amber.
There was a long pause.
"Innocent?"
Vanessa stepped back down off the Blue Midget and stalked towards
Trisees, a look of fury on her face, "Alright, Trisees. For a start,
I'm not going to ask what you're doing back here again, but you were
NEVER innocent of ANYTHING. And the very fact that you seem willing
to just stand there while Tara and, yes, even Keto are dying, speaks
VOLUMES about just how much respect you actually deserve right at this
moment. You want an incentive? If you don't get back up to the
medibay and help these two, they're going to die. An innocent woman
and the one man on this ship who doesn't hate you are going to die.
That's your incentive."
She paused for a second, looking as if she wanted to say something
more, but then just turned on her heel and headed back to the Midget.
"Screw you then," she said, "Amber, let's fly this thing out of here.
The rest of the staff can handle the triage, I'm coming back to the
medibay."
She glanced over her shoulder back at Trisees as she stepped through
the doorway, her eyes filled with contempt.
"I wish you were Shakespeare."
With that, she stepped inside and out of sight.
"You're an idiot if you think I want Keto to die. You're an idiot
anyway. Both of you are. Do what you will. I don't need to take
this from either of you. Save them and sort them out yourselves.
I'll find my own way back. I've never gotten anything from this crew
apart from hate the moment I appeared. So can this respect rubbish -
it was taken from the start. Oh and Shakespeare won't be coming back
any time soon. You've both seen to that."
Trisees turned on his heel and walked away from the Blue Midget as its
doors hissed shut and the engines started to whine.
