Efof - "Left behind" pt 2

<snip>
Everywhere Efof looked now he could see more and more evidence. It was
so obvious!
The room seemed to close in, the photos of Fferna and her triumphs
over so many civilisations almost beating Efof to death with his own
stupidity.
Suddenly, the alarm klaxon rang. The lights dimmed to red, reminding
Efof of those bars with the naked ladies Captain Jed dragged him to
once. The sound of Fferna's voice came over the tannoy, but instead of
grinning happily to hear his girlfriend's calm soft voice, it
instilled dread in Efof.
"Incoming missiles from Halkon. Everyone prepare for impact!" She shouted.

-------------------------
Who: Efof and Fferna
Where: Ffionian ship, Fferna's room
When: After Efof realised he was dating a murderer
Efof heard the alert to brace for impact, but the first thing he
reaches for to brace himself against was a rickety CD rack. The ship
shook as it was rocked by a blast, and the CD's scattered everywhere.
Efof staggered to the window, he pushed aside Fferna's pink girlie
curtains and looked out. Originally, the mixed team of Blue Dwarfer's
and Ffionians came on two ships, Captained by jay and Keto. Efof was
aboard the first one, and looked out at the ship Keto Captained. It
was being pelted by rocket after rocket. Lucky thing really, because
that ship was blocking the one Efof was currently on.
Efof took a deep breath and raced to the Bridge of the ship. So many
things raced through his mind, not so much about his life being
currently in danger, but about how he could have let himself fall for
a girl who loves to slaughter alien cultures.
He burst onto the bridge and faced Fferna. She was occupied staring at
the viewscreen and barking orders at a lowly Ffionian dressed as the
Riddler. So much commotion was going on on the bridge that it was hard
to hear anything over the explosions, and the panicked shouting.
Fferna did find a moment to look at him.
"What is it Efof, can't you see I'm busy?"
Efof held up a photograph he had swiped from her quarters. It was the
photo of Fferna standing over the carcass of the Pygmy leader of
Omicrom 941.
"We need to talk!" he said.
Suddenly, despite all the commotion. The bridge went quiet. Efof's
heart sank, his stomach went tense, and his rectum twittered. He had
said the words. The four words universally known to be the start of
the end for all relationships.
Fferna's stare was piercing, and her tone was cold. Cutting through
the commotion of the bridge as if time had stood still she simply said.
"What?"
Effo pulled the front of his shirt from his neck and gulped hard. His
throat was as dry. For a long moment they stared at each other. Efof
was unable to speak, and Fferna still looked at him with those
piercing eyes. Her gaze remained unaltered, but Efof was looking all
over the place, at his shoes, up in the air, to the left, and to the
right. He finally uncomfortably looked at her again. Her stare was
still fixed on him, cold and steeley.
"Erm nothing." he finally said, backing out of the situation. "I'll
see you later, yeah?"
Her face blossomed into a beautiful, but probably fake smile. "Yes of
course sweetie."
Efof walked off and caught his breath, not entirely sure what had just
happened. Sure his girlfriend was still a psychopathic murderer, but
did that really mean he had to dump her?
Five minutes later and the ship tore apart.
After a few more minutes of solid bombardment by the Halkon missiles,
Fferna had given the evacuation order. Everyone ran screaming to the
escape pods, with mere seconds left before the ship took one missile
too many.
Efof had been pacing the decks when it happened, when he saw a mass of
people run past him, and then Fferna. She had been the last person on
the Bridge, so was the last one to get to the escape pods. Along the
twisted and battered corridor, a blast threw her to the ground. She
called ahead to Efof.
"Efof, help – I think I've twisted my ankle."
Efof remained frozen in the spot. Between him and her was a large
blast door. In the event of pressure loss, or a fire, the blast door
would close. It started to slowly close. On his side were the escape
pods, on the other was his hobbling girlfriend.
"Efof help! I can't make it." she said.
Efof looked at the photograph of Fferna and the carcass of the Pygmy
leader of Omicrom 941. She was carrying a large blunderbuss and wore a
massive grin on her face as she stood on the murdered person. Efof was
a pretty chilled out person, but this made him sick. Fferna was a
murderer and he should let her die.
It was the first time ever that he'd had that thought.
It wasn't as if he'd even have to do anything. He could just stand
here and all his troubles would be over. He wouldn't have to explain
to her that he never wanted to see her again. And the universe might
have been a better place. Sure it didn't bring back the Pygmy leader
of Omicrom 941, but it might save numerous other aliens from the same
fate.
Many people might have let her die. But Efof wasn't one of them. He
quickly ran to her and put his arm around her and helped her through
the blast door and into an escape pod.
The pod launched moments before the Ffionian ship exploded.
"So. Was there anything you wanted to say to me on the Bridge?" She asked.
Efof came over all warm and cold at the same time. He felt her
penetrating gaze burning into him again.
"Erm... erm..." he started. "No. Nothing." He finished with a sigh and
hung his head.
"Good." she said in a satisfactory manor, and the two sat in silence
until they were rescued.
