Rosette - "Special Assignment"

Who: Rosette, Others.
Where: BD, Earth.
When: During and after the reassignment process.
Rosette breathed a heavy breath, she was next. The large door in
front of her sparkled with an energy like nothing she'd ever seen
before, both drawing her in, and pushing her away at the same time.
This was the chance to get a new, real life. She looked down over
herself, and pulled her jeans up properly, and did up her top button.
"Can't give a bad impression..." she said to herself. Her belt was
tightened, and the knives hung on it in their sheaths. She shifted
her weight from one foot to the other in anticipation.
The doors in front of her opened, and someone left. She was too busy
being anxious about her own 'interview' that she didn't even look at
who it was, but she did hear a voice as she walked in, saying
something like "I don't think I got through...".
"Enter." came the flat voice of the people sat behind a large oak
table. Rosette entered into the light, the single flourescent tube
that hung on its power cables from the ceiling. Rosette stood in the
centre of the room, next to a slowly expanding hole in the floor.
"Name?" they asked first.
"Rosette LaChance." she replied.
"Current occupation onboard the ship?"
"Umm... I'm not a registered crewmember..." she replied, thinking now
that they were just going to kick her back down to Earth.
"So... What do you do onboard?" she was then asked. She thought for a
second what would be the best way to answer that question, and finally
replied.
"Mercenary." she said. This created silence within the ranks of the
interviewers for a second, before they all turned to each other, and
spoke in a low whisper. Eventually, they turned back to her. "Have
you got a significant other?" they asked her. Instantly, an image of
Rufus entered her mind, but nothing had happened between them, and she
hadn't seen him for a while now.
"No..." she said, sighing to herself. The interviewer smiled, and
leant forward on the table. "Can you show us what you can do in
here?" they asked. Rosette thought about this, and looked around.
The hole in the floor was in a good position in front of their table,
and she knew her knives were sharp enough to cut through oak.
"Ok..." she said, and leapt onto her hands, beginning an acrobatics
show. She did a few expert cartwheels before she reached the wall,
then leapt up onto it with her feet. Using the momentum she had
gained from her previous movements, she was able to hang on it for
long enough to thrust herself off, over the top of the hole, directly
towards the interviewers.
In mid-air, she drew her knives, and sliced them both down the centre
of the table, almost cutting it in two. Landing behind the few
people, she fired a single shot from the laser at the table, which
finished off the cut, sending the two halves crashing to the floor.
"We may have... a special assignment for you." they said, and handed
her a card. "be there in 24 hours if you're intersted."
The door then opened, and let Rosette leave. She headed for the empty
shops on the promenade, hoping to get herself some new things before
she had to leave the 'Dwarf. She thought about looking around for the
people she knew, but she hadn't seen any of them for a while, and
Holly had been deactivated since the gas was removed.
"What?!" she exclaimed, all of the shops had been emptied already, not
a single item of anything in the whole promenade. Feeling like a
large part of her life had disappeared, she walked slowly towards the
exit. The nearest airlock to the space station, and then descent to
Earth was nearby. She just hoped that someone that knew her would
spot her, so she could say goodbye.
