Almost fried Pancake

Justin Pancake, on the Blue Dwarf, in the reactor, asleep
<snip>
"I just scanned for life-forms. I can scan everywhere apart from an
area 10 meters away from the ships' main reactor. So if anyone is
standing there I wouldn't see them."
"Also if they were standing there they'd be dead." Jay admitted.
"Okay, can't be too careful. Everything on that ship is
going to get fried very soon."

Justin woke up and wondered why he was in a hazmat suit. Then he
realised that he liked to sleep next to reactors when he was drunk, he
believed it gave him a good nights sleep and took away his hangover
after a night out. Sadly, it did not do anything as his head was
banging. What had happened last night? Had he gone to a rave?
He moved away from the dangerous main reactor. He had probably had
enough dosage of radiation for a while.
Justin looked behind him. A glowing orange wall seemed to cut through
the entire ship. It wasn't affecting any of the structure,
architecture or bulkheads, but it pierced the roof, walls and floor of
the room he was in.
He approached the wall tentatively, wondering what it was.
"What the crap is this?" he asked no-one in particular. He reached out
with his hand to touch it, then a voice in his head suggested he
shouldnt. He did not normally listen to the voices in his head, apart
from the ones that told him to murder dogs, and occasionally to use
shop fronts as toilets on saturday nights.
The wall moved towards him and it made him jump. "Oh crap, I don't
like this."
The laser wall swept over a potted plan in the room, and turned it to
ash. This alone was enough to tell him that he would probably die if
he touched it. Sadly, Justin was curious and he pulled a Nutrigrain
bar from his pocket. He flung the oaty snack at the wall and it
erupted into flames and vanished.
He looked around. The room he was in was long, giving him a long way
to run away from the wall – but the only exit from the room was a door
that was just about to be covered by the wall as it approached. He
knew that if he was going to escape, he had to be quick.
He dived for the door and flung it open. The wall was just approaching
the doorframe when he dived through. He looked left and right. On his
right the wall was dangerously close, he was somehow surprised that it
was burning through all the walls. Maybe it stretched across the
entire ship? He turned left and ran like the clappers down the corridor.
"Where do I go?" he asked himself. He noticed that nobody else was
onboard. "How long was I asleep for? I know I had that beer but...
man... that was SOME beer. I knew I shouldn't have mixed it with that
Eniram Vodka."
He turned a 90 degrees corridor and realised that there was another 90
degree turn at the end – back in the direction of the wall. He ran
down it anyway, just in case the wall wasn't there.
"Smeg!" He shouted when it was. "I'm trapped!"
He looked around and realised there was only one method of escape. A
ventilation grill lead away from the wall of danger. "Aha! The well
placed ventillation shaft saves the day!" It looked screwed in tight.
"Shit, I have not got a screwdriver. Why don't I carry a screwdriver
around with me? Who would carry a screwdriver around with them? Maybe
I'll try using my fingernails."
Justin was so desperate to escape that he managed to open the grill
with bleeding fingers. Every single one of his fingernails had snapped
off, the last just as he had loosened the final bolt. He slid in and
the ventilation shaft carried him to a rainforest. The rainforest was
in fact the arboretum of the Blue Dwarf that had overgrown and looked
like a total mess. "This place is a total mess!" He said as he pulled
the vines and sticky buds off him. A few vines tried to strangle him
as if they had their own agenda. Someone had told Justin that there
used to be Dinosaurs living here. He did not know if that meant they
evolved here or invaded at some time. The same person had also told
him that the dinosaurs had now left. Apparently some cleaner
teleported them down to some planet.
This was only little comfort, as something in this forest still wanted
to kill him. He could see that even through the trees the laser wall
was still following him. Thick grey clouds formed around it as it
turned every living tree into dust.
He quickly found the exit and saw a sign for an escape pod. "That's
what I need!" He said.
He got into an escape pod and realised he had no idea what to do. He
had been trained by the JMC but had a massive hangover the day they
taught escape pod controls and spent most of the day being sick in a
bin. He pushed every single button he could and managed to launch.
The escape pod flew away from the Blue Dwarf. But Justin held the
control too far to the left and spiralled round and round at a
sickening speed. As he span away from the mining ship, he saw it
inside a large wire mesh tube and wondered what it was. He was the
ship ripple and disappear.
"Oh no it has blown up!" He exclaimed, then the spiralling got too
much of him. "Urgh... where is the bin!"
