JP - Part 2: Dropship to Disaster

This is another JP by myself (SMAndy) and Becca! Definitely not dead
now. This is a continuation of the previous one, so its also a
backpost. Getting there though!

"Alright buddy." Amber said, waving the blaster dangerously towards
the voice. "Tell me what's going on around here or you'll be going the
same way as Uglyzilla there."

Shortly after the death of 'Uglyzilla', the pair were introduced to
their mission, and bundled away on a small ship, barely big enough for
both of them. It was a black fightercraft, with most of its weapons
removed, replaced with extra fuel for the long journey.
"Man... I can't believe they couldn't give us anything faster than
this..." Rosette complained, sat in the co-pilots seat with a towel in
her hair. "thank god they had a shower in here though..." she added
"Ugh... It's slower than the Raven fully loaded." Amber complained,
poking the dials and buttons a little bit, trying to coax a little bit
more performance out of the ship.
"Sorry, I have no idea what the raven is... but i do know that
fighting that thing was quite fun..." Rosette replied, "I love that
name you called it... Uglyzilla..." she laughed, "kinda reminds me of
the captain of the last ship i was on..." she finished, and sat back
in the chair.
"Heh, Raven was Dean's ship." Amber said, thinking for a moment how
much she missed his toasties. "What do you think about this any way?
Not like we can make a quick get a way if we need to is it?" Amber
said, using over the options of the mission.
"I'm not sure..." she replied, thinking it over too. "It's small
enough to sneak in, maybe..." she said "but yeah, we're screwed if we
need a quick getaway.... "Maybe we can steal something faster when
we're there?"
Rosette hummed for a second, as her brain ticked over. "It's a pity
we haven't got anything like a wormhole drive here... that would make
it so much easier"
"Heh, if it has wings and an engine I can pilot it. Even their messed
up control system is famillier to me now." Amber said, taking a knife
and cutting her hair shorter, so that she was not quite as
recognisable. "Shouldn't be too much longer till touch down." She
said, as the small plannet came onto the viewscreen.
"what? you know how to fly those things?" Rosette asked, astounded.
"no wonder they asked you on this mission." she added. "No idea why
they asked me though..." she finished, sighing. She leant forward,
and looked at some of the controls
"The scanners are showing a pretty empty spot just south of here...
could be a good place to touch down." she said, putting her seatbelt on.
"Yeah, I know how to fly these things. I own one of them. Tempremental
things, mild sentience behind all of them. Damn Hymies enslave
anything they can." Amber piloted the small traceless dropship towards
the empty landing spot and touched down without incident.
"We'll need to get moving or they'll come for us. We weren't totally
under the radar all the way." She said, hitching a small black pack
onto her back.
"should've brought it with us..." Rose replied, grabbing a pack of her
own. She fastened her knife belt around her waist, and pressed the
button to open the back door. "Won't they come looking for us if they
find the ship?" she asked, as the warm, humid air flooded through.
"They'd know it wasn't one of their own now, it's been modified too
much. Me and Jay made some extensive changes to the inside and the
flight codes. Might be able to get away with it, but i'd not want to
risk it incase it got left or they noticed. They'll come looking
alright. That was a sure thing from the start though, we don't have
long to do this." Amber ran on ahead a little bit.
"Jay?" Rosette quizzed, running to catch up. "There was a Jay on the
last ship i was on..." she added, running alongside Amber. The ships
that they had to track were in the distance. It would take them a
while to get there, but at least they'd have more chance of being
unseen.
"This air tastes horrible..."
"Reminds me of the Thorax..." Amber said, jogging along. She briefly
had an unbidden flashback. The gun in her hand, the gasp as the laser
bolt struck Alota. She shook her head to clear the memories and
focused on the task at hand.
The two of them carried on jogging for a while, before they came to a
group of large rocks. On the other side was a collection of bugs, all
different shapes and sizes. Not one of them was actually bug sized.
"So.. How do we get past them?" Rosette asked, reaching for her
knives. "Is there another way through?"
"Easy!" Amber said, and crept along to a rock slightly south of
Rosette. "kjhgjkjkkkkhiiii! ssslaarjjnnisnick!" Amber howled in the
bug language, before creeping back to Rose.
"What was that?" She asked.
"I told them that there were intruders about 3k's that way." Amber
grinned and gestured the opposite direction to the way they came from.
Screeches filled the air, as most of the bugs took to the air, their
membrane wings flapping hard, buzzing like a thousand lawn mowers all
at the same time.
"holy crap" Rosette said, covering her ears. The sound was almost
deafening. Shortly after though, it died down. Only a few of the
army of bugs were left, giving them an almost clear path to the
nearest mothership.
"Now's our chance!" she said, drawing her knives.
