Jed Calvert is aliiiiiiivvve! part 1

Who: Jed Calvert and Rosette LaChance
Where: TransMed building, Earth
When: As the fire started...
<snip>
"Shall we go?" Jed asked.
Inside Rosette's mind, the battle was a fierce one, Rosette was using
her own mind to create weapon after weapon, while all the Hymenoptera
could do was defend itself. Both of the fighters were worn out, and
finally, Rosette created a new baseball bat, and swung it at the
Hymenoptera's head, knocking it clean out.
Unfortunately, the link between them was so great that Rosette also
fell unconscious, in the real world as well as in her mind.

Rosette was scooped up into Jed's arms. Still strong despite him
being bound to a bed for several months. Green blood coursed through
the veins in his arms as he held her and ran out of the burning room.
Another explosion behind him pushed Jed forward too fast, and he
accidentally threw Rosette down a flight of stairs. She bounced and
rolled off the steps, and Jed followed. At the bottom Rosette landed
luckily in the recovery position, but Jed hit his head on the marble
floor and it knocked him unconscious for only a second.
In that second his life flashed in front of his eyes. He remembered
being the Captain of the Blue Dwarf... not a very good Captain
though... he remembered being shot by Andy Roos the cleaner, and a
strange man out of the corner of his eye with constantly changing
clothes grinning as Andy pulled the trigger. He remembered further
back, to when he was a freelancer before joining the Blue Dwarf,
where he took any job he could to raise enough money to afford enough
alcohol to survive.
Alcohol.
Alcohol was important to him. In his daze, Jed thought back as far as
he could remember. And for all that time he'd been an alcoholic. Or
maybe more than an alcoholic. He'd drank to forget... and he'd drank
to kill.... the urge.
He thought back a bit further, to the crash on the moon where he was
the only survivor. And meeting the woman on the hilltop. The woman
that he'd later known as "Annie", when she appeared to him and showed
him a vision of the future. He never really worked out who she was
and why she had appeared to him.
He remembered back to that time and what she'd said to him. "You're
still human." She had said.
Jed remembered the crash. All the bodies laying around. Men, women,
children, all dead. Blood leaking out of their bodies. Fresh, red
blood. Tasty blood.
"NO!" He called out. "No! I need alcohol!"
