Lt Jed Calvert, 1st Officer, SCS York

<OOC - just snatched enough free time to post this>
Lt Jed Calvert, 1st Officer, SCS York
A lot of confusion had happened in Jed Calvert's life. His earliest
memory had been waking up in the wreckage of the SCS York, with his
dead crewmembers around him. The sky was a dark red, bathing
everything in a sinister shade of maroon. Especially the bloodied
dead bodies of his friends and colleagues.
The blood covering their bodies had been so tempting... too tempting.
Much later he'd been able to control this urge by drinking large
quantities of Whiskey. He found that Whiskey took away the desire to
drink the blood, and it took away the taste of the blood he'd already
drank.
Without Whiskey, his memory went back to that time, so much earlier
in his life. He had been in his twenties when it had happened, a good
officer with a good record. He was a shining example of real Space
Corps officer material. He was going up the ziggurat, lickety split.
His long stint at TransMed had taken him further, even further than
this. They'd operated on him and not allowed him to have alcohol for
so long… the desire to drink blood had returned, but he could
remember so much more…

Who: Jed Calvert
Where: on the Blue Dwarf (of all places)
When: After Rosette mysteriously arrived on the Blue Dwarf
Jed's eyes snapped open.
He was on a starship, that much he could tell. But he didn't know
which one it was. As he pushed himself to a standing position, he
noticed that his hands looked different to how they should. In his
mind, he was only 25… but his hands were of a person at least ten
years older. This skin was also dry and pale, like he'd had some
serious drug or alcohol addiction.
He turned his hands over and over in front of his eyes. They were
scarred, and his knuckles were raw from hundreds of fight fights and
drunken brawls, but he couldn't remember ever having one.
He staggered around the corridor and saw a man up ahead. It was a man
dressed in a Space Corps uniform.
"Howdy!" He cried out to the man, who turned to him but didn't move
from the spot. The man was guarding a door with police tape around it.
"Good evening." Said the security guard, who had a Manchester
accent. "How can I help you?"
"I'm… I'm a little confused." Said Calvert. His accent was American
but mild, a long way off the wild Texan that most crewmembers on the
Blue Dwarf would recognise from him. "I'm not sure what ship I'm on."
"This is the JMC Blue Dwarf sir." Replied the security guard. "Are
you drunk?"
"No. No of course not." Calvert straightened himself up to look more
presentable. "I'm just disorientated that's all."
The security guard twitched an eyebrow.
"Let me introduce myself." Said Jed. "I'm Lieutenant Calvert. I'm the
Second Officer of the SCS York."
The security guard squinted his eyes a bit in confusion. "I'm sorry
sir but I'm fairly certain the SCS York was destroyed just under 10
years ago."
Now it was Jed's turn to look confused. "Oh?"
"Yes… sorry sir." Said the Security guard. "Also… did you say your
name is Calvert?"
"Yes." Said Jed,
"Jed Calvert?"
"Yes that's me!" Said Jed.
"Well there used to be a Captain of the Blue Dwarf called Jed
Calvert… but he was shot..."
Jed almost laughed at that. "No. That wasn't me. It can't have been.
I would have remembered being promoted to Captain… and I certainly
would have remembered being shot!"
The security guard grinned. "Yes of course. It must be a common name.
But it was a big deal, this guy bled green blood, it was a real
freaky thing. It was like he was an alien living under our noses and
we didn't even know!"
Jed laughed. "Yeah, that must have been pretty freaky." Then he
pointed to the door with police tape that the guard was stood in
front. "So what's going on here?"
The security guard lowered his voice. "There's been some murders."
"Oh?" Said Jed.
"Yeah… some Engineers just got killed, we think it might be a
Hymenoptera onboard…. Or some other type of giant insect. You better
watch yourself."
"Don't worry!" Said Jed. "I came top of my class at the Space Corps
academy for self-defence. In fact I came top of my class for most
things, people say I'll soon be a Captain you know!"
The security guard laughed at Calvert's boast. "So when did you
graduate?"
"Hmm?"
"From the academy. When did you graduate?"
"Oh. Last year." Said Jed with a smile.
"Oh really?" The guard said, looking Jed up and down. "You're a bit
old to be a graduate aren't you?"
"What!!" Said Jed. "I'm only 25!"
The security guard looked Jed up and down again. Being suspicious of
people was his job, and he almost knew when he was being lied to. The
man in front of him looked much older than 25.
"Yeah right buddy." He scoffed.
Jed Calvert walked away in disgust.
He made his way to the Blue Dwarf's Promenade where people were
walking around the shops, looking for post-Christmas bargains. An
unexpected thirst struck Calvert as he felt the proximity of so many
people. It was a thirst for their blood...
At first it took him by surprise, and he was embarrassed to be
looking at their exposed necks, but after a while he was carefully
looking out for his perfect target. He looked for a person on their
own who wouldn't put up too much of a fight.
The need for their blood was intoxicating him now... it was all he
could think about.
He found his victim and followed them into a shop...
<OOC – Who is the victim? I am in the need of someone to have a bit
of a fight with Jed, maybe it is someone who recognises him? If you
want to join in, please just reply to this post or email me and we'll
discuss ideas. Thanks!>
