Dysart, Rufus - Radiation, Holograms and half-GELFs

Who: Andy, Rufus
Where: medibay
When: Hours after Dante and Nikki's little maneuver
Dysart could only look wide-eyed onwards as a baker's dozen of
security guards both filled to capacity then emptied from the medibay
in a single minute.
At the end of the bay Dante stood conspicuously with a shit-eating
grin on his face. A few harsh words had been exchanged between the
security sergeant and the giant but he quickly disappeared.
Apparently, the 'nurse' in the cell wasn't a nurse at all but a
cardboard cutout with a radio tied around its neck. That said, it was
very convincing and its lack of the third dimension didn't stop one of
the guards carting it off with a somehow depraved look on his face.
Whatever was had come to pass in this medical bay could be summed up
thusly, 'I don't know, I don't want to know. #$*& this shit, I'm outta
here.'
"Dysart!" Rufus called at him, wadded in his hands was a particularly
large bundle of blooded cloth which he was busy cleaning his hands
with. "Keto and I have done all we can for Leatherhead. I'm pretty
confident of his chances but... well-."
The robo-janitor rubbed the back of steel neck uneasily. "-Yeah, I
know. Don't expect him to climb mountains and wrestle bears. He just
had his chest cut open."
After a half minute of uncomfortable silence Dysart motioned to leave.
"Wait... Dysart, I was wondering... could you do me a favour- its okay
if you say no!" The Scientist added at the end in a rather
high-pitched tone.
He turned slowly back to the improve doctor. "You just saved
Leatherhead's life, sure, what is it?"
Rufus' bit his lip while he wrung the cloth in his hands. "Well...
I... I want you to help take me down to the AI cache."
He really should've seen that coming.
"Rufus, alright, I'll do it. But I'm going to say this upfront. Don't
put your expectations too high."
This got a rise out of a suddenly heated Febuggure. "I'm not an idiot
Dysart! I've got at least 2 doctorates and 4 honorary degrees! I
*know* that she didn't going to be the same but I have to *try*!"
Dysart looked him directly in the eye. His holographic head then
nodded in understanding. "Alright, take whatever radiation protection
you can muster. Let's go."

Who: Andy, Rufus
Where: Near the AI Cache, A.K.A Holly's brain
When: An hour later
A single circular light illuminated the rusted door. The holographic
robot was suspiciously clean while the only human of the pair had his
hair and clothing dirtied by the trek to the untouched area of the
deck. Rufus walked forward brushed at the dusty sign adorning the
door. "'AI and backup room'... this is it huh, just past this bulkhead
is where Holly's mind is?"
"Yup." Dysart have the 'Hazardous environment' sticker a testing jab;
it quickly fell off. "This place hasn't been touched for years. From
my interior giger counters I'd say the place is still hot though."
Rufus pulled out the masses of Anti-radiation pills and
rad/stim-packs. "It's okay; I've got the anti-radiation material."
The robot's head bobbed approvingly as he pulled off door's side panel
with a prolonged twisted crunch. "Good, you're still staying."
"What-?!"
Dysart shook his head. He may not be Andy anymore but goddamn it he
was not going to risk a proton missile to the face from Amber. "A
Fireman suit may be fireproof but they don't go wading into infernos.
Let's not risk anything. Don't worry, I still have my comms up so you
can call me if you need me or vice versa."
From the looks of things all Dysart needed to do to open the door
was... there, cable cut.
Both of them jumped slightly as the door hissed like an asthmatic
snake while the metal bulkhead wearily shuffled itself into either
side of the hall.
The corridor beyond was pitch black and utterly slient. An electrical
snap came from Dysart's eyes as his night vision turned on. For the
nth time, Dysart was thankful for his current lack of bodily fluids,
most because he'd have been pissing himself by now.
"Okay... now-." "-INTRUDER ALERT! INTRUDER ALERT! CLOSING ALL
BULKHEADS!" Holly's voice blasted over the tanoy, sending the robot
scrabbling for the over side.
"JESUS CHRIST!!" Rufus shrieked, his hands leaping up to his chest.
Within half a second Dysart dove through the door, slapping down the
floor while making a sound like slapping a metal pole. Only a half
second latter he saw out the corner of his photoreceptors the blast
door smash together like a pair of shear blades.
A few pregnant seconds rolled by while the only sound that Dysart
heard was his own laboured synthesised breath.
"Oh, wait..." The tanoy screeched back to life, Holly adding in a
slightly sheepish tone. "...it's just ants. Never mind everyone. False
alarm! Sorry!"
The Comms unit on Dysart's chest hiss to life.
[Dysart...? Dysart... are you okay?] Rufu's voice filtered through.
Twinges of pain skipped across his body while his taxed hydraulics
pulled himself to his feet. A single plastic snap returned as a thumb
pressed the return button. The static silenced and Dysart responded.
"I'm fine... I'll call you back when I need you. Try to do what you
can to get that door open."
<To be concluded in the 2nd part>
OOC: I know you're not going to be back until the 18th Rebecca but if
there is anything you want planned about Tara's revival then now's the
time. She won't be 'active' until 20th at the earliest. If not then I
have a few plans to make her revival 'interesting' to say the least.
