Jayne:- \'Clone\'ing on for dear life

<snip>

Spidette was now bleeding from several wounds.  Weakened, and with reduced speed, she made her way back to Jayne to finish the job.

<end snip>

Spidette may have been weakened, but she still wasn't slow. She charged at Jayne, tossing aside promenade furniture as she did so.
Jayne, realising that she wasn't going to be able to handle this alone turned and ran, turning every now and again to fire a round from her shot gun.
One handed, and running in the opposite direction hampered her aim however, and none of her shots hit their target.
She cursed under her breath as she turned back to face the direction she was running in, and load a few more shells into her weapon, narrowly avoiding a patio table that Spidette had thrown toward her.
Jayne reached the double doors that sealed off the Promenade from the rest of the ship, and hit the release switch. The doors hissed, and slowly began to open.
"C'mon...c'mon..." she muttered as she waited, fully aware of the imminent arrival of the were-spider. The doors opened wide enough for her to slip through, but as she did so, Spidette fired a thick line of web, which sealed the doors shut, blocking Jaynes exit.
"Dammit!" Jayne yelled "Can't a girl a break around here?"
Spidette answered this by throwing a rubbish bin in Jayne's direction, Jayne ducked, narrowly avoiding being hit.
Jayne frantically looked around for somewhere to run, when she spotted it. Her only chance of escape, the stairs to the upper level, but to reach them she had to run back toward the spider.
"Here goes nothing..." she mumbled, and made a break for it. She ran as fast as her legs could carry her, the blood in her veins pumping faster than ever, her lungs burning, as she powered toward the oncoming spider.
The spider hissed a menacing cackle, as though mocking her, but as she approached, Jayne dropped to the floor, and slid across the shiny metal floor, right beneath Spidette's legs, once through, she got back to her feet and kept running, as though nothing had happened.
The spider was taken completely by surprise by this, and took a few seconds to regain her bearings, she turned around, now more enraged than ever and took off after Jayne.
By this point, Jayne had made it to the mezzanine level which ran around the entire length of the promenade.
The spider saw her, and began to climb.
Jayne, thinking quickly, smashed the window of a nearby camping supplies store with the butt of her gun, and grabbed a large propane canister, she lugged it over the barrier of the mezzanine and toward the spider. "EAT THIS!" she yelled as she fired off a round from her shotgun, it hit the canister, which erupted in flames, which quickly began to spread across the promenades lower level.
But the spider had evaded it, staring up at Jayne, it stalked her from below, running alongside the balcony matching Jaynes movements.
"Persistent little bugger aren't you..." Jayne muttered, and she raised her shotgun.
This time however, she wasn't quick enough, as Spidette spun another web, this time, wrapping around the barrier of the mezzanine floor. "What the..." said Jayne, seconds before Spidette yanked the line, and tore down the suspended floor on which Jayne stood.
"Smeg!" yelled the clone, and blindly leapt forward, grabbing hold of a strip light, hanging from the ceiling on two chains with one hand, the other still wrapped around her shotgun.
There, she dangled, looking down as Spidette tossed the debris from the collapsed mezzanine aside, searching for the elusive clone.
"Up here Smeg-ball!" Jayne yelled.
The spider looked up, as Jayne, unloaded a few shotgun rounds toward the beast, the recoil from the gun, coupled with her one handed aim caused her to miss each time, worse still, it had caused the light fitting to swing erratically. Sensing that she was about to lose her grip, Jayne tossed the gun to the floor in order to regain her grasp of the light. Now clinging on with both hands, she tucked her legs up as the spider's legs trashed about madly beneath her, trying to get at her. Jayne heard a creaking noise, and looked up to see the pins holding the light fixture to the ceiling were coming loose under the extra weight.
"..typical.." she murmered, and began to swing, backwards and forwards. At the apex of her fifth forward swing, she let go of the light, elegantly flipping over in the air, and catching hold of the next light, just as the first fell from the ceiling and landed on Spidette's head, stunning the creature momentarily.
This, however earned Jayne no respite, as her sudden landing on this, presumably less well fixed light had caused the chain to snap, and she fell toward the floor.
Spidette, quickly regain compusure, and dived at the ground where Jayne was about to land, but arrived too quickly, and Jayne dropped onto the spiders back.
Spidette threw her body from side to side, trying to throw Jayne off who clung on for dear life. Instead, the spider charged, at full pelt toward the outer wall of the promenade, it stopped running sharply as it reached the outer wall, throwing Jayne off who collided hard into the glass that kept air in, and space out.
"Nnngh!" she complained, which, while it probably wasn't the most profound thing Jayne Chrysler had ever said, was probably the most appropriate.
dazed, she opened her eyes, and rolled over onto her front. Her gun lay a few mere feet from where she had landed, all she had to do was reach it. She began to crawl toward it, as Spidette grabbed her left leg.
"Aw COME ON!" Jayne snapped "THIS ISN'T FUNNY ANY MORE!" She kicked out with her other leg, to try to get the spider to lose it's grip. Jayne was weak, the fight had taken it out of her, not to mention the heat from the spreading fire was getting to be unbearable, but still, the spider let go. This confused Jayne, who hesitated, gazing down at her now liberated leg, then back up at the spider, which was rearing up on it's back legs, as it had done before, ready  for the kill. Jayne edged forward and grabbed her shotgun, she raised it aiming once more for the underside of the spiders exo-skeleton and pulled the trigger.

She'd never forget the ear-splitting 'click' that came from the empty weapon.

Running out of options fast, Jayne turned the gun over in her hands, so that she now grasped it by the barrel, and swung it hard, beating the spider round the head with it.
This surprised the spider, just long enough for Jayne to get back on her feet, and half-run, half limp to safety.

But there was no safety. The flames engulfing the Promenade blocked every exit, the fire suppression system had fired, but wasn't making much impact on the flames.
Her only chance, was to take cover in the nearest building, and with that, she ran dived through the shattered window, of Club Fister...

<snip1>She cocked her gun and raised it, just as the spider reared up on it's back four legs, it's four front legs high above Jaynes head.Jayne unloaded a round into the spiders thorax, the spider recoiled, and rolled head over heels backward away from Jayne, pushed along by the momentum of a close range shotgun shell.It slowly got back to it's feet and looked down at it's cracked shell, where the shell had hit, and then stared back at Jayne, it screeched loudly and charged once more at the clone...</snip1>Jayne leapt to the side at the last moment, getting nothing more than a deep scratch down her leg.  As she landed, she raised the weapon again and fired, breaking the spiders exoskeleton once more.  Most Hymenoptera encountered would have been torn apart by the last two shots, but there was something about this one that no one had been able to research.  A mix of true Hymenoptera DNA with artificial, plus the direct mix of Human DNA.Spider-Rosette (now to be called Spidette!) continued running past, ignoring Jayne for the moment while she reloaded.  Eddie Monsoon was stood not too far behind, and raised his own gun.  Without the reflexes of a trained Ace pilot, Spidette got there first, and smacked him hard with the side of a leg.  The gun flew out of his hand before he got a chance to fire it, landing on the opposite side of the promenade to Jayne.  Eddie flew threw the air, knocked unconcious by the force of the blow, and soon to have a concussion to go with it, as he smashed through the windows at the front of a strip club.<snip2>Ah...Cass smiled broadly as she bowedThe Ambassador - he would do nicelyShe turned and walked off the stage with as much of her tattered dignity as she could muster towards where Mr. Butler waited with a gown for herShe was worth so much more than all this.</snip2>Lucky for Cass the gown was quite thick.  Most of the glass from the impact bounced harmlessly from the material, only a few small shards hit her legs, causing less than papercuts.  A large piece of glass, however, hit Mr Butler in the arm, sticking there like a pickaxe.  Mr Le Souteners men ran to the front of the club, all drew hidden guns and began to join in with the battle, firing randomly at the large spider.  Jayne reached for hers as she recovered from the shock of her landing, rolling away from stray bouncer fire in the process.Ducking and weaving, Spidette got much closer to the bouncers as they would normally be comfortable with, but they knew that if they retreated to within the club, Le Soutener would have their heads... Literally.  Continuing to fire, they each fell one by one, as Spidette's long, spiky legs tore through their heads and chests.Spidette was now bleeding from several wounds.  Weakened, and with reduced speed, she made her way back to Jayne to finish the job.<Tag peoples.  Cass, maybe another opportunity for you?  Jayne, lets have some fun!>
