Running Free

Who: Mikcy
Where: The Medi-bay
When: Just after Jayne locked him in
<Snip>
"There's no medical staff around, you'll have to wait here." She turned to walk
out. "I'll be locking you in, so you'll be perfectly safe."
"You think?" He replied.
She stopped and tossed him her gun and a spare magazine.
"Don't tell anyone I gave you that." She warned him. "If anyone asks, you stole
it."
Micky thought he saw a cheeky smile at that and wandered off to make himself
comfortable on a bed. Jayne realised that he obviously hadn't learned too much
about firearm safety as he scratched his head with the business end of the
pistol, holding the trigger for more leverage to scratch good and hard.
"Be safe," she said rolling her eyes and locked him in.
</snip>
Micky finished scratching his head with the pistol and flopped down on one of
the beds. Fifteen years ago he would have freaked out over a situation like
this. Not any more though. He felt used to it. Like just being sucked from one
timeline to another was a normal part of life. He thought more about what had
happened with the Emperor of the Zograth. Had Micky, just another simple minded
guy who, when he had first dissapeared was technically a cripple, really been
chosen to kill him?
"Yes." Came the voice from the corner of the room. It was a male voice, but when
he looked he could see only the walls of the medi-bay.
"Well," Micky told himself. "I suppose a decade and half of time travelling and
fighting wars you shouldn't be in really take their toll on your sanity." He
closed his eyes and rested his head back on the hard hospital pillow of the bed
he was on.
"No it doesn't." Replied the voice. "It only toughens you up, prepares you for
the worst..." The mans voice seemed to trail off as if another thought had
occured to him. "Or at least it would if she had kept her pesky goody-two shoes
nose out of things."
Micky sat up and looked around the medi-bay, his eyes heavy and weary. Still, he
saw nobody. He lowered his head sleepily back to the pillow, only this time, he
slid into a deep and restless sleep.
*****
He dreamed he was standing naked in a huge dark and cold room. 'Why naked?' he
thought to himself, and almost instantly a pair of jogging bottomns and hoody
appeared on him. 'Thanks,' he thought to no-one at all.
"What do you think you were playing at back there?!" The mans voice again. It
echoed through the darkness. Micky was about to tell him he didn't understand
when another voice, a females, replied.
"You were going to let him get killed!" She responded alomst accusingly. Micky
still didn't recognise either voice. "I had to do something!"
"It's all part of his training!" The man sounded very impatient. Micky tried
looking at where the voice was coming from, but it was far too dark.
"Hello?" Micky said cautiously.
There wasn't a peep from either of the voices now. Micky thought he could hear
panicked whispering, but he assumed that was just his mind playing tricks on
him. "Is this a dream?" He asked rather bluntly. "Cause if it is, can you just
let me get back to my usual one where me and Jayne roll around nak... umm...
laughing?"
Micky heard more whispering in the dark, this time the voices seemed to be
arguing again.
After a moments silence, Micky heard footseps heading his way. Either his eyes
were adjusting to the dark, or the light was following the footsteps.
"Can he see you?" Asked the female voice.
"I don't know," the man replied.
Micky looked as hard as he could, but could only make out big, scary looking
eyebrows.
"Who are you?" He asked the man stood not far from him in the very dim light.
"I guess that answers your question, Annie." The man said before turning round
and walking off again. "Are you trying to ruin everything by bringing him
here?!"
"I didn't bring him here!" The female, Annie, exclaimed. "I'm not like you,
Potential, I try and make GOOD things happen!" Micky felt lost. Well, as lost as
a guy sat in the darkness of a dream listening to two strangers arguing about
him can feel.
"Where am I?" Micky asked in the general direction of the voices.
"Oh, just send him back for gods sake!" The man barked at the woman. Micky heard
irritated footsteps stomping away from him. Heels clicked on the floor as the
female walked over. Again the light seemed to follow her. It reflected off her
long blonde hair.
"Sorry." She said as Micky felt like he was being screwed up in a ball again and
sneezed through time.
*****
Micky woke up on the floor of the medi-bay, tangled in the coarse blankets of
the bed. He looked around, but again only saw an emplty medi-bay. A tannoy
echoed through the ship. It was the captain letting everyone know they had
docked at Fourth Base and not to go anywhere.
"Sod that!" Micky said to himself on the floor and got to his feet. "Fourth Base
is a pleasure station! I've not reached fourth base in years!"
Micky stared at the locked door of the medi-bay wondering how he was going to
get out, when a nurse walked in from the outside, clearly unaware that Micky had
been locked in on purpose. She was around his height with long blonde hair.
Micky thought he recognised her from somewhere, like a memory from a dream, but
he had no idea where. She gave him a quick smile and nodded to him as she went
about whatever she was meant to be doing.
'That was lucky,' Micky thought to himself and dashed out the door and off
toward the flight deck.
Surely somebody else was planning a quick trip to pleasure-town.
Micky intended to tag along and get himself some action too.
<Tag anyone leaving the dwarf, either take me along as a welcome guest or
stowaway please! Either way, Micky wants to get off the ship for a few hours!>
