Re: [JMC_Blue_Dwarf] Lifeforms through the radiation

<Snip>
Efof ran a scan with his psi-scanner again, this time looking for lifeforms. The radiation was playing havoc with his instrument, but it was registering several lifeforms in the corridor ahead. He showed it to Rosette, who made everyone halt at the next metal door and ready their weapons. "Can you tell what they are?" Rosette asked. "Human? Alien? ...Hymenoptera?""Not sure." Said Efof, could be anything. But there's more than one."Rosette nodded and opened the metal door.

<End SNip>
"Wait!" Jay said aloud, raising his hand, "Don't open that door!"
Rosette obliged, and sealed shut the door before it had been opened more than a few inches. "Sir?" she asked.
"What the hell could survive in an environment so flooded with Cadmium II?" Jay said "The levels Efof's scanner's reading would turn us into dust!"
Everyone nodded.
"So, we can guess that whatever's on the other side of the door, isn't human, and judging by the fact we were shot at on approach, it probably aint friendly either. We need a way to see whats over there before we get into a fight, one tear in any of our suits and it's light out."
"Whats the plan sir?" Rosette asked
"Justin" Jay asked "What's the status of the ship's AI?"
"Dormant" Justin replied after a few minutes tapping at his portable computer. "Probably shut itself down to preserve it's sanity...Holly series computers are known to suffer from system degradation if they're left active for to long without interfacing with a user,...they call it computer senility, look at OUR Holly, he's batshit crazy, and he's only been operating, with a full crew for around ten years...this Holly was probably in top working order and realised that it needed to shut down, he's left a few automated systems running, propulsion, navigation,....and one single stasis booth...."
"A stasis booth?"
"Yeah....it has one occupant, I can't tell who, but I'd guess he was put on ice before the radiation leak and Holly's keeping him alive while the radiation drops to a safe level. Probably why he's headed so far out from our solar system too, one leak in the hull plating and the radiation on this ship could kill millions"
"Can you reactivate it?"
"Yeah....it'll take several hours though"
"Not good enough"
"Well...I can force a fast reboot, but it could damage his systems, he may not be able to shut down again by himself...we'd need to remember to do so when we leave...otherwise, his systems will degrade and who knows what could happen...."
"Got it...do it..."

<Ok guys, we have a sane holly coming online, what does he reveal? ....oh, and I guess it's our fault he's still online and senile in three million years time....whoops..>

<snip>"This is the real Red Dwarf!" He shouted over his radio.He pulled on the manual hangar door release and the large metal door opened slowly, then watched as the Starbug flew inside."Hey wait for me!" He said, crawling through the hangar door before it closed. <end snip>Who: Efof, Jay, Rosette, Justin and anyone else who wants to join usWhere: Red Dwarf's landing bayWhen: After Justin opened the doorThe Starbug touched down on the Red Dwarf's flight deck, next to Starbug 1, a ship which was identical in every way apart from it's insignia stated 'Red Dwarf' rather than blue. Captain Chrysler was the first one out of the Starbug, and started giving orders to different crewmembers as they disembarked. Efof sensibly waved around a Psi-scanner to assess life support on the ship. "Captain I'm reading a lot of flashing red behind those doors, and on most of the ship." He stated. Jay wasn't sure what the hapless Ffionian he was talking about so took a look at the scanner himself. "Radiation." He muttered, then addressed the crowd. "Everyone, this entire ship has extremely high levels of radiation, most likely leaking from the engineering decks. Put on your radiation suits please."As all the Humans scrabbled to put on radiation suits, Efof remained still and waited for them. When asked he simply said "Ffionians are immune to radiation. Probably." Rosette opened the door into the rest of the ship, unleashing a toxic cloud of radiation onto the flight deck which passed harmlessly over everyone's radiation suits, apart from Efof. His blue skin started to bubble and melt. "I'll go get a radiation suit." He said, running back to the Starbug. As the team progressed through the Red Dwarf's complex series of corridors, Jay shouted to them all that he wanted to find out what happened to cause the radiation, and what happened to the crew, and if there was anyone still alive. "Human? Alien? ...Hymenoptera?""Not sure."
