Reconciliations

Katrina and I had, to a degree, reconciled. I got the feeling that she didn’t entirely trust me, but at least she wasn’t trying to kill me anymore.
It still felt awkward, all I wanted to do was to hold her, kiss her, but her body language made it clear that she wasn’t ready for that just yet. (And to be fair, I had to be fair to Cassandra..) instead we walked alongside each other in almost near silence along the promenade, just the two of us, away from everyone else.

“So….” I said, looking for a reason to start a conversation “What have you been up to?”
What kind of a question was that?! Idiot!
Katrina obviously thought so too, as she fixed me with a stare that made it clear.
“Sorry…” I said sheepishly. I could feel my cheeks burning. “I just….y’know…missed you.”
We walked a little further along the corridor.
“So what’s he like…Max?” I asked.
This clearly opened her up, as she looked back at me with a smile on her lips. “He’s the greatest kid, always getting into some kind of trouble…”
“So…he takes after me?”
“He…he has your eyes…”
It was clear she loved this kid, talking about him was softening her armour, the Katrina I’d fallen in love with seeping through.
“You and…is it, Ishani? Seem close”
“We are.” Katrina replied “We’ve been dating for years.”
“Da….what?” I stammered “But…she’s a chick!”
“No smeg Sherlock!”
“But, since when were you…”
“Gay? I’m not. I still like guys, but after you…what they made me think about you…I hated you…and she was there for me, the only one who was and, well…one thing led to another…”
“Damn…do me a favour?”
“What?”
“Don’t let Justin find out…he’ll follow you everywhere in the hope you’ll put on a show…”
She laughed, but I was crying on the inside. She’d found someone else…

I shouldn’t be surprised I guess, she was hardly going to stay loyal to the man who she thought tried to kill her son.

And besides, it wasn’t like I’d kept it in my pants either was it…

But to be fair, I DID think Katrina was dead.

Besides, there was no reason I couldn’t fight for her…I won’t mention Cass just yet….

“I love what you’ve done with the place…” Katrina said, ending my trail of thought with a sarcastic tone as she gestured around the promenade.
“Don’t look at me…I left the keys with Amber…we’ve done well rebuilding though, let me show you the…”

I didn’t get the chance to finish my sentence, the entire ship rumbled before shaking violently. I grabbed Katrina by the arm while I grabbed a handrail with my other hand to keep us upright. Katrina looked scared…unsurprising perhaps seeing as what happened to her the last time something shook the ship…

<snip>
"All hands , and Justin, alert! We have a problem. Someone just fired the turrets on the Archiver ship.We need to check for anyone alive in there..Also..We have a saboteur on board!"
<end snip>
Katrina and I glanced at each and ran back up the promenade to Parrotts, where Davie, and the rest of Katrinas squad were waiting.
“Wheres Ishani?” Katrina asked
“I thought she was with you!” Hoshi replied
“Davie!” I yelled “Take the Enforcers, find Ishani!”
Davie complied, and he led Katrina and her squad away.
“What are you going to do?” Davie asked me looking back over his shoulder.
“I’m gonna find Phil, and get over to the Archiver ship…whoever just attacked them may have just started a holy war….”
