Goop

<snip>
A couple of micro-time gates fizzed and popped in the air around before one finally yawned open, across the other side of the room, hanging mid-air between them and the main monitors.
“Sort that fucker out first!” Cass pointed through the gate towards the heavily armoured mechanoid raising a blaster to aim towards them..

<end snip>
“Sod it” Jay muttered as he drew his weapon deftly and brought it to bear on the attacker, letting of a single shot which hit the droid in the arm and made it miss it’s shot, instead blasting a hole in the ceiling.
A couple more rounds pinged off the mechanoids helmet, but did little, causing Jay to push over a table and yank Cass down behind it to take cover with him.
“Smeggers tough..” he muttered. “We need something with a little more kick than a handgun..”
“On it..” Cass mumbled, tapping her handheld and bringing her hulking robot online.
The robot whirred into life, only to be shot full of holes almost immediately by the attacking droid.
“Don’t build ‘em like they used to huh?” Jay snarked as the carcass of the hulk began to smoke, he spotted something in the wreckage.
“Perfect.” He rolled out of cover across the room, picking up what he’d seen and taking cover once more behind another toppled desk on the other side of the room. He hurled the item he’d picked up at the attacker, and popping up behind the desk for a second fired of a shot to follow, his shot hit just as the fuel canister landed at the attacking robots feet, causing an explosion that knocked the bot down.
Jay leapt over the desk, and reached for the mechanoid before it blinked out of existence.
“Smeg…missed it.”
“Missed what?” Cass asked.
“He’s damaged, so assuming they use similar tactics to the STCP when we were injured in the field, one of two things is going to happen within the next few minutes.
1. He’s gonna come back, fully repaired and attack us again with better knowledge of our capabilities;
2. He’s gonna come back with reinforcements.

That’s the bitch about time travel, he can sod off for a year to repair himself and jump right back in at full power while we’re still licking our wounds from the first encounter…”
He checked his weapon. “The only way to stop that is to kill him outright or to trap him here by destroying his time controls.”
“So he’s coming back?”
“Yeah, and tougher than ever. We need to get out of here, pick up some heavier weaponry.”
“I don’t think we’re going to have time” Cass said, pointing out the two time gates that were now opening on opposite sides of the room”
“Course there’s one other way to trap them here..” Jay said, grabbing Cass by the hand and leading her to a specific spot on the floor between the two gates and standing directly behind her.
Two mechanoids entered the room, one through each gate.
They raised their weapons, as they did this Jay fired his gun at his own feet, blasting the floor vent grate free from it’s mountings where it fell into the vent below, followed by Jay and Cass – who fell away just at the right moment to avoid the goop coming at them from either side and coating both attackers with the time anchor.
“And that, will do it..” Jay said, getting to his feet at the bottom of the shaft a deck below.
“Now what?” Cass asked as the two robots above them began to climb down the vent after them.
“Now we head this way..” Jay said, pointing up the tunnel. Cass nodded and crawled along the shaft, followed by Jay who turned occasionally to fire a gunshot at the pursuing droids.
Cass kicked a grate away from the wall where the shaft met the corridor and climbed out followed by Jay.
“This way” he said firmly and led Cass a little way down the corridor, where he ducked into a sogtre room.
“Can you see anything we can use to take one, or both of them out?” He asked
“No..” Cass replied “Actually, wait yes..there” she was pointing at the top shelf, out of her own reach.
“It’ll do” Jay said, reaching up and grabbing the mining laser.
He shoulder the bazookoid and headed back out in to the corridor. The mechanoids were out of the ventilation shaft now and heading toward the pair.
Jay blasted off a series of shots with the laser, the droids were tough and it took a few blasts, but eventually they fell.
Jay headed over to the fallen droids, unable to jump out due to their own time anchors, the barrel of his bazookoid smoking, Cass following close behind.
Taking no chances, Jay blasted both downed droids in the head.
“Easy” he smiled at Cass. “Though we need proper weapons..” he tossed the bazookoid to the floor.
The laser landed on the pressurised canister that stored the time-anchor good, splitting it and sending the goop squirting out, all over Jay and Cass.
“Ah.” Jay said. “Probably could have saved all that trouble and just let them shoot us in the first place eh?”
