The Awakning -

Who - Sam Beckett - a rather busy scutter, Where - Stasis lab 2

Sam's mind began to clear, not with any real clarity of memory but with enough basic motor functions to allow his exit from the stasis tube. He stumbled a few steps forward paused then fell like newly cut tree, forward, slowly at first before the artificial gravity of the ship enhanced his speed. The was a dull wet thud, then silence.

Holly's face popped onto a vid screen. “Sam Bekkett? Is there a Sam beckett here? Hello, For gauds sake I don't have time for this, do I look like an alarm clock, Last call for Sam bloody beckett....” With a tut the vid screen goes blank

Much later the floor of the Stasis room moaned, then moved. A lone scutter was poking the prone figure of Sam in an attempt to wake him. Sensing the response was not one of speed and being late for a clean up in the mess room the scutter opted for a more effective means of arousing Sam, seconds later after a particularly sharp jolt from the scutters electrical discharge and conductor rod Sam stood up. Most of his body protested wildly at this action but his brain matrix was already rebooting and accessing the memory banks allowing him to piece together the least few weeks. His recollection of the trial and the sentence of 3 weeks in stasis seemed almost funny to him now.

After checking himself over , making sure everything was still in the right place he reached inside his pocket, pulled out a cigarette and lit up. An alarm sounded and a metallic voice politely asked him to extinguish the cigarette. Sam coughed on the second drag and opened a panel on the wall. He switched a few wires and then yanked out a circuit board. The voice stopped. He pulled out a long jack wire which he attached to his head just behind his ear and proceeded to plug the other end into a port inside the access panel. His eyes glazed over as the connection was made. The cigarette drooped slowly until it was just hanging off his bottom lip the smoke curling up round his face and drifting lazily into the air. Then he spoke for the first time in what he now knew to be a very very long time.
“Well that explains why I'm so smegging hungry.”
His head twitched as more data was encoded into his neural net. After a few minutes he disconnected himself, folded the jack wire neatly into his jacket, replaces the wall cover and headed out of the stasis room.
