**Action** "Disasters part 1"

***Action***
Sector 27 Gamma
Blue Dwarf
Drive room
"We're here!" shouted Kayn at the helm station. Mike Mackenzie had
come to watch him as Niples thought it would be good experience for
the young pilot-wannabe. A crowd gathered by the Drive-room's
computer monitor. It showed outside, huge asteroids filled the screen
as the large blue ship slowly drove through.
"There's an asteroid right in front of us!" Mike pointed out, leaning
over Kayn so that he couldn't see his monitor. He quickly moved away
as he realised what he had done, Kayn gave him a cold glance and
piloted the large ship around the chunk of rock.
Major Harris, who was in the room out of curiosity, pulled Mike back
out of the way. "Only trying to help…" the kid muttered.
"What's that over there?" Allie pointed to a distant object on the
screen.
"I don't know." Said the Captain, hoping it wasn't another one of
those large spider-like ships again.
Efof, who was there as relief pilot turned pale white. "It might be
one of them. The ships that destroyed my world- we're all doomed,
doomed I tell ya!"
"Calm own Efof. We don't know it is." Said Kayn.
"But they're big and powerful, look at what they did to Ffion!"
"There's nothing left TO look at on Ffion!"
"That's my whole point!" Efof started cowering in the corner.
"Can we get a scan of whatever it is?" asked Niples. Everyone turned
to the blonde haired girl called "Ashley" at the sensor computer and
eagerly awaited her to see what the object was. After a minute she
turned slowly to see what everyone was looking at.
"What's wrong?" she asked, totally oblivious to the situation.
"Scan the damn object!" shouted Harris.
"Yes, please do." Said Niples.
Under the watchful gaze of the drive room staff, she brought up a 3D
wireframe scan of the object. It was a torus shape, like a huge ring
in the middle of space.
"What is that?" Asked Kayn, although eveyone was thinking the same
thought.
"I don't know," said Captain Niples. "But you're going to find out
for us."
Kayn was startled. "Me?" he asked.
"Yes, take a Starbug and get closer to that …thing. Take Commander
Whitewolf, Allie and science officer Dirk Bell with you too."
"Yes sir." As Kayn was about to leave the room to find Allie, Bell
and Whitewolf who were probably in their respective quarters, Niples
called him. "And take Mike Mackenzie here too, he can come along for
the experience. As long as you don't touch anything!" The last part
of the sentence was directed at Mike, whose eyes widened.
"Don't worry. I'll be good sir!"
They both left the Drive-room and as Efof was still a covering mass
of arms in the corner, Niples called Jay in to sit at helm in case
they had to make any emergency movements.
***On the Starbug***
Commander Whitewolf, Console officer Allie, Dirk Bell and Mike
Mackenzie sat in the Starbug as Kayn piloted it towards the huge
metal hoop in space.
Dirk was trying to use his scientific thingamy whatsit to scan the
see what the object was in more detail.
"So what is it?" asked the rodent first officer.
"From the data I have, compiled and collated into one sentence, I can
verify that it is…. A big hoop in the middle of nowhere." Dirk said
flatly.
"You must be able to tell more than that." Said Allie. As the Starbug
pulled closer to the object its full size could be seen.
"I can tell you that it's an absolutely huge hoop in the middle of
nowhere!" he said. "I bet you could fit the Blue Dwarf through that.
It might be a tight fit though, but it's definitely big enough!"
Kayn pulled the ship up to a stop next to the big circle. "Can you
see those struts there?" he pointed to what looked like bulges at
either side of the hoop, they seemed to glow with a certain energy,
although were not glowing at all.
"I'm picking up an energy pulse coming from it." Said Allie.
"An energy pulse?" asked the hamster. "like a communication?"
"Well nothing exciting, it just seems to be a steady rhythm coming
from the hoop itself."
Whitewolf, being a hamster was curious by nature. "Wha tif it's some
kind of key?" he asked himself out loud. Maybe that's the secret to
this object."
"What are you going on about?" asked Dirk, and before he forgot
himself he added "sir".
"if we can replicate the pulse then something might happen. It could
be a test by the people who made it so that whatever it does will
only be done when they want it to be done."
"Riiight." Said Kayn slowly.
"Its just a hunch, give me that radio microphone and I'll try to tap
out a beat to match the one coming from the hoop."
***Meanwhile, back on the Blue Dwarf***
Sickbay
Larry Trisees was looking out of the window feeling very glum, the
sight of the swirling gasses and floating asteroids weren't stopping
him for being miserable much, but nothing else seemed to have helped.
He couldn't even be happy abput this, he wanted to see black space
with twinkly stars but no-such look. Sector 27 Gamma had too many
thick nabulas and asteroids to see any hint of black in space. Apart
from that one black section that looked like a giant spider. No, he
was wrong- two giant spiders. They were getting bigger too.
Suddenly Trisees realised that they were two objects coming towards
him, towards the Blue Dwarf. What was he to do? Raise the alarm?
Break something?
He saw a fire sprinkler on the ceiling above him. `Aha, setting that
off will cause an alarm." He thought. Sh he picked up a computer and
smashed it on the ground causing a small electrical fire to start
burning away at the carpet. Then he took a pillow case from the
nearest bed in sickbay and waved it over the flames until it caught
fire, then waved the flaming pillowcase above his head to set off the
sprinkler. The sprinklers came on, spraying water everywhere but the
fire alarm didn't go off.
"Oh great." He thought. "I'm wet and for what reason? None!"
Then a blast knocked him to his knees, the ground shook violently for
a second then stopped. He got up again and another shake knocked him
to the ground, the lights flickered and then went to half-power.
***Drive-room***
"Where the hell did they come from?" shouted Niples as computers
sparked across the room from another hit.
"They just appeared!" said Alota, who was at the sensor computer now
after Ashley ran away in a scared fit. "There's two of them… they're
firing again!"
The huge 5-mile long ship shook as it took the full blast of a
powerful weapon.
"That last blast just ripped a huge hole in the lower engineering
section." Alota yelled, imagining any workers down there being burned
to death from the explosion, or being sucked into space through the
hole and having their lungs explode with the pressure.
Niples looked at the monitor, they were the spider shaped ships. They
had seen them before and now the aliens obviously weren't too happy
to see this Blue ship invading their space.
***In the Starbug***
Kayn, Mike, Dirk, WW and Allie.
"Boom badda boom badda bim bam boof!" said Whitewolf through the
radio microphone for the 5th time."
It wasn't working, the beat obviously wasn't the same to use on the
hoop. The hamster was going to give up when Mike suggested that he
try.
"Bum badda bum badda bim badda ::chikky chikky:: bum"
Then, as if answering to Mike's boom box talent, the hoop sprung to
life. The metalic generators on either side of the ring started to
glow, and circuitry could be seem transferring energy through the
metallic hoop itself. As the metal surged with power, the space in
the centre of the ring started to crackle with energy. As the power
revolved around the circle a spiral of white energy started swirling
into the centre of the ring.
"It's a gate!" said Dirk.
There was no question about it, the space in the centre didn't look
like it was supposed to be there anymore, it looked like a conduit to
somewhere else like a tunnel of pure energy and light leading to
somewhere unknown.
Just then they received a message from the Blue Dwarf. Captain
Niples' voice crackled over the comm sounding very urgent. "..ples to
Starbug. **crackle** …nder attack. You must get out of the area.
Repeat, we are under attack!"
The voice cut off and the five of them sat there for a second in
silence. "Go where?" Allie asked.
Kayn pointed to the circular gate in front of them.
Whitewolf thought for a moment and then said. "It'll have to do.
Fasten your seatbelts everyone!"
Kayn sighed and put the Starbug's thrusters on. "Here we go." He said.
***Blue Dwarf***
Drive-room
Jay was looking around at the Drive-room. Computers had fallen over,
light fittings had already fallen down and Efof was on fire- but he
could probably put it out himself, and it would be mildly amusing
watching him try.
"What shall we do Captain?" Jay yelled over another explosion.
Niples looked around for options, to be honest there weren't many.
But he always liked to show that he had something up his sleeve. Just
then, the long-distance monitor showing the Starbug's progress caught
his eye. He saw the Strbug disapear into what looked like a circular
wormhole of some sort.
"Mr. Crysler." He said. "Full power to engines, I want you to take us
through that."
Jay gulped and went for it.
The spider ships chased the now moving mining ship towards the gate,
their prey was more evasive than they had realised.
The Blue Dwarf almost tore itself to pieces in the distance towards
the gate, acceleration was never this ship's best feature but Jay
pushed the ship to whatever it had.
Katy Roskev down in engineering had to practically hold the engines
together so that they didn't burst under this sudden pressure of use.
The huge ship went through the hoop at full speed, Jay was worried
that he would grate the sides or tear the Drive-room off of the top
of the ship, but luck was on his side this day. It sailed into the
gate and was gone in seconds.
The spider ships passed around to the other side of the gate but the
ship was not there, it had gone somewhere else, and the energy doors
had closed behind them.
To be continued.....
(OOC- New member Jo Peiades you can write about getting onto the BD
while we were in the asteroid field)
