Psych-evaluation of Rimmer

Who: Cerebrum, the brig crew
Where: The brig
Cerebrum walked into the brig, carrying several big books that listed
all the new psychiatric illnesses discovered on board within the last
week. It would soon become necessary to restock the ships paper
supply, since Cerebrum insisted on having each week's report as a
hard copy, since he didn't trust Holly's memory banks (though, one
must admit, Cerebrum was fairly justified in this).
"I'm here to run a full psych-evaluation on Rimmer, to determine
whether he can be accepted for political asylum," Cerebrum told Lloyd.
"Nobody's allowed to see the prisoner," Lloyd responded.
"Regulations. I have to run a psych-evaluation on anybody requesting
political asylum. On most ships this would be to determine that the
person isn't insane enough to vary from the accepted norm. On this
one, I have to make sure he isn't sane enough to vary from our norm."
"He attempted to escape from security officers, regulation
2934345.234325c specifically state that we get to hold the prisoner
without contact to others until he's been interogated."
"Ah, but he isn't a prisoner," Cerebrum said calmly, he'd been hoping
she'd say that, "You see, since the nation (which will be defined as
a group of people who have some sort of organization) he is
requesting asylum from is hostile to us, that makes him a rebel of
that nation. Special protocol introduced by the Space Corps state
that any rebel of a hostile nation, is to be considered a citizen of
the inverse of that nation, a nation prime, so to speak. That means
he is actually a citizen of a friendly nation, whose borders merely
happen to be exactly the same as the hostile nation. Since he's the
only member of that nation, he is automatically the head of state.
The head of the sate, and the ambassadors, of a non-hostile nation is
always granted diplomatic immunity. So that means Mr Rimmre here is
in the brig, but is not actually in a state of prisoner in brigness,
because that would be a violation of diplomatic immunity, and put us
at war with his nation, making it hostile, which would make the
nation that he's rebelling against us our allies, since the enemy of
my enemy is my friend."
Thirty minutes later
"So that means he is just standing behind a force field in a cell,
while not under a state of arrest. QED. So let me speak with Mr
Rimmer."
"What was that?" said Lloyd. She had lost Cerebrum somewhere in there.
"Well," Cerebrum said, "I recomend a course in logic. In the
meantime, I'm going to speak with Mr Rimmer and run a psych-
evaluation on him. Should he prove objectivelly sane, he will be a
prisoner, but not until then."
After this piece of logic, Cerebrum then turned to Rimmer and
said, "My name is Dr Patrick Cerebrum. I'm here to judge your
psychological fitness to be granted political asylum. To get things
started with on a friendly note, please tell me your full and
complete name, and how insane you think you are?"
