Name: Stromile Thaddeus KeeganNickname: "Miner 49er" or "Old Man Winter"Age: 80Birthplace: Jamestown, California, EarthGender: MaleRank: Master Chief Petty Officer, Non-commissioned officer.Position: Mining Department ChiefHeight/Weight: 5'5, 190lbsEyes/Hair: Light blue, whiteDescription: Stromile is an aged and venerable old man.  He's short andsquat with wrinkles and laugh lines on his face.  He sports a thick bushymustache and short trimmed beard, also white.  His eyes are bright andyouthful however, topped by bushy grey/white eyebrows.  He's somewhat stoutand walks with a slight limp.  A corncob pipe usually juts out from hismouth.  Often wears his mining cap complete with blaring light on duty andoff.  Work overalls, heavy boots and utility belt complete his ensemble.Personality:  "Old Man Winter" is exactly that, a man of deep experience,wisdom and the occasional memory loss.  He's spent years undergrounddigging out whatever the bosses wanted excavated out of the earth anddoesn't exactly bear alot of esteem for lazy, incompetent officers whothink too highly of themselves.  He is generally pleasant, sometimessuffers from delusions and can be downright ornery when the mood strikeshim.  He has a wealth of practical mining knowledge, although his actualskills have been degraded with age.History: Stromile is a tenth generation miner and went to work in the mineson Earth at age 12 with his father.  He has no other siblings and hismother was a homemaker.  At 18 he was contracted to do a deep space miningmission by the military and at 20 joined as an NCO.  He has spent nearlyall his career on mining vessels as a Mining Specialist and has traveled tonumerous planets, planetoids and other planetary bodies where there wereminerals or fossil fuels to be collected.  He went up through the ranksslowly but surely and finally made Master Chief Petty Officer at age 55.He has since turned down the invitation to become a Command Master Chiefand Warrant Officer fifteen times and declined numerous commercialopportunities as well.  Some would say this is a deep loyalty to theMilitary, others would point to obvious mental defect after years of beingunderground and possibly inhaling foreign dust.Hobbies: Stromile is an avid smoker, collecting and enjoying the numeroustobaccos across the galaxy.  Fishing and wood carving also take up anyspare time he is able to weedle out from the officers.Important Events in his career: When he was 25 onboard the JMC Suez hediscovered a thick vein of gold that stretched 5 miles deep inside aplanetoid.  He tried to warn the Captain not to explore further down thecave but he would not listen and earned a medal for bringing back the tornpieces of the enterprising skipper who'd been munched on by a giantCave-Tiger.  While on the JMC Pogo helped bring back the single largestquantity of crystalline ever recorded and at the Mining Colony Ferra Gracaheaded up the mining operation for 5 years, discovering several newelements that the Military soon put to use in their shipbuilding programs.Favorite Piece of Advice: "Captain, I suggest we scan for any beastiesbefore moving on." and "Wear those damn goggles while you're drilling!"Summary/Intangibles: What you see is what you get with Stromile Keegan.He's not exactly spry, often spouts incomprensible phrases and is prone tooccasionally falling asleep and forgetting things.  He is however veryknowledgeable about mining, has a good rapport with the enlisted personneland can be counted on to give his honest opinion and effort every time.
