what the <boom>

where: space?
who: keats and jack
when: i dunno!!!!
why? because
ok, last time we left jack flying his new ship, the 'cataclysm', with Keats
hiding in the escape pod (meant for 2, in a one man ship??) Jack was having
a bit of fun, loops, blowing up big rocks, you know, the usual (but NOT
crashing, dean...) "oh my god, john, this baby ROCKS!!!" shouted jack over
the radio, keats getting a bit annoyed that he can't fly the ship, there
only being one seat and all... but then, completely out of the blue (as
always) a message pops up on the screen 'engine failure, engage automatic
shut down immediately' with the classic red lights and siren, "what the
hell?, this isn't supposed to happen" wailed jack over the noise.
"what is it?" quizzed keats from the safety of the escape pod.
"i have no idea, apparently the engiones are down..." said jack, quite
calmly, more so than it should have been. Jack grabbed a lever to the side,
and pulled, the lights turned off, the engines started to power down, then
another message appeared 'emergency shutdown failed, reactor going critical
in' and a sounded countdown began, the only thing jack could do was to dump
the power unit, in true star trek style, a large cylinder fell from the
bottom of the ship, and exploded just out of range... they drifted for a
while, when yet another message appeared 'critical fault, thrusters down,
gravity well detected' "oh crap..." said jack, in the classic 'it can't get
any worse' voice, the planet appeared on the view, and they started
accelerating, faster than it should be possible from such a small planet.
"ok, i'm coming in, we have to use the pod and get out of here, i've sent a
distress call, hopefully one of the bugs is in range, what with the reactor
not beiong here any more" said jack, again, with that classic voice.
"oh come on!! you might as well say it, go on!! 'it can't get any worse',
there, nothing happened..." said keats, really annoyed now.
"damn you, you should never say that, you know perfectly well that it can,
and more precisely, will" replied jack, as the pod exited the ship, engines
powering up and blasting them away from the gravity of the planet, and
toward the last known location of the bug fleet.
"i'll just make a note of the co-ords of that planet, maybe we can salvage
that ship..."
said jack, noting some numbers on a piece of paper and pocketing it...
