A physiologically disadvantaged Miner.

Who?: Keith
Where?: The sicence and medical dept.
When?: Just after he made an unsettling discovery.
<snip>
Keith went out into the corridor and kicked a wall. It didn't hurt.
He punched the wall, still no pain. He punched the wall again, and
realised that the Quartzoid underneath his skin was hardening and
acting as impact armour...
<snip>
'Ok, this is, like, totally outside my area of expertise, so what the
smeg do I think I can achieve?'
Keith didn't know what he felt he could do about his stony
underlayer, but he knew he had to reach the medical department. He
hurried down another corridor, then barely managed to draw himself
out of sight as a man carrying a bottle and the Pink Tree passed,
obviously engaged with some other activity. The danger past, Keith
slipped down the corridor and into the medibay.
'Right, now what?' He looked around the room. A machine
with 'Medicomp' printed on it looked promising...
<<<later...>>>
"... so my heart rate is, like, fine, my lungs are strong, my
nuerological functions are totally up to scratch, all of my organs
are healthy and I'm not insane (provisionally), so the only thing
that's different about me is this stone underskin... but what the
hell is it!?"
Hang about...
<<<flashback>>>
"So what are we meant to do 'till we get rescued?"
Asked Keith as he trudged squelchily down the corridors
"Well, I suppose we try to work out where in the time-space thing we
have to go to get the Dwarf back... not an easy task given the
group's collective intellect, the only person with any sort of
knowledge of what we need to know here is Zodar!" Said Amber, clearly
not impressed by the situation.
The group 'Hmmmm'd, not a single one of them knew anything that would
be of use to them.
Presently they reached the airlock.
Keith started.
"Wait! What if the gene-changing machine leaves, like, trace changes
in the DNA, so I might still be slightly made of rock, like, so if
this is what happens, maybe Dean knows something about this thing...?"
<<<un-flashback>>>
...so maybe he still had a certain amount of Quartzoid DNA in him?
Maybe this was a side effect of the Genetic Manipulator? Ok, let's
assume that's what it is, could it be harmful? Hardly. In fact, it
was sort of useful, he kinda liked it! He'd have to find the Tree, or
another Medical crew member to check this out...
