Efof- "Command Material?"

<snip>
At Parrot's, he found someone unconcious just inside the doorway.
Brian calmly stepped over him and saw Efof looking a little
uncomfortable at the bar.
"How're ya doing, Efof my mate?" asked Brian.
<end snip>
"Errrr…. I'm fine… thankyou" said Efof not having a clue who this
person was. "I was just going to show Kara the navigation computer
in the Drive-Room."
Brain smiled and looked at him. Efof thought of something else to
say. "And how are you -eeerrrm…"
"Not so bad, not so bad y'know… work and everything."
"Yeah it must be hard doing…. Errm… yes well, must be hard!"
"I knew you'd understand!" Said Brian sitting down at the bar. Kara
glanced at Efof wondering what was going on, Efof shot a confused
look back at her.
"Efof aren't we supposed to be going? You have a ship to fly, and I
thought your going to show me!" Efof was about to say something to
Brian but he waved it off.
"Surely you have tome just to serve me one drink?" Brian said.
"Well… okay" Said the weak willed Efof, he did after all come from a
culture where nobody ever argued.
He gave Kara an apologetic look; She sighed and crossed her arms in
annoyance.
Efof poured him a beer quickly, so quickly that it was almost all
head, so had to do it again.
Kara grew more annoyed at Efofs timewasting.
Efof gave the man his beer, wiped his hands and got ready to leave
when Brian grabbed him. "Don't you want to hear about my day? That's
what barmen do, they listen…"
"I uhh… oh go on then…!"
Kara stood behind Brian mouthed the words `just hear his story and
we'll be out of here!'.
"Well last week we put this APB out…" started the security grunt.
"Whats an APB?" Efof butted in and asked.
"Ahh I see your curious young Feeeoneen? Fioneen?"
"Ffionian" Efof corrected.
"Ahh right, well if I tell you all about the history of Earth's law
and security services then you tell me all about your culture!"
Efof grimaced, and noticed Kara was storming out.
Suddenly the ship shook.
"Who's piloting this thing?" Shouted Brian falling off the barstool.
"Ahh an excuse to get away!!!" Efof said out loud, naively not
realising that he just said it to Brians face.
Efof ran to the Drive Room.
---Drive room---
"We've ran into an asteroid field!" Ashley the Blonde sensor
operator told Efof as he sat down and took the spatula off the
control column.
"Well why didn't you do something, all you have to do is move this
stick left!" Efof said. "Its so easy a Ffionian-moose-monkey can do
it… not that I'm a Ffionian-moose-monkey, although my fathers uncle
who was a bit mad apparently proposed to one."
He shook off the bizarre thought in his head and continued. "But of
course it is a very important and complicated job, I suppose that's
why they always give foreigners like me the good high-skill jobs,
like piloting, and being a barman…."
Ashley went back to painting her nails.
Efof piloted the Blue Dwarf away from the asteroid field but a few
still crashed into them and bounced off the Blue Dwarf's dull metal
hull.
"This is no good, why is there nobody in control here?" Efof
asked. "Somebody needs to tell the pilots to get out there and shoot
the stray asteroids. Why is it so relaxed in here? People aren't
usually allowed to put their feet on the desk!" he looked as Ashley
who was painting her toenails with her foot up on the nuclear
reactor sensoring system and the fat guy with the ponytail sat at
the back who had turned up for work in a `Linux' T-shirt.
"And isn't there normally a dress code?" Efof asked.
"Duuh!" Said Ashley making a noise at him. Efof was taken aback,
wondering if this was a human word he had neglected to learn.
"All the command staff are in Dean aren't they! We can do what we
like!"
"But the marines are in control?"
"Duuh!" There it was again, Efof wondered if he should look it up in
the dictionary later.
"The marines don't care about piloting, they've installed some kind
of field-command post, they're not bothered about an ACTUAL command
point like this one."
"Well someone should take control!" Efof made a stand, remembering
his `hero' certificate, which of course he brandished around at this
particular moment.
"I will do it, for the time being I will be temporary commander of
the Drive-Room!" he pressed the alert button telling the pilots to
scramble and protect the Blue Dwarf from the asteroids. Efof carried
on his crusade: "Hey you, you over there in the Linux T-shirt, is it
Mr. Fatgeek? That is your name right? I've heard people calling you
that."
"What?!" Said the geek, annoyed.
"I'm in control now!" Get smartened up, stop using the Drive-room's
free broadband for downloading games and… oh, oh my is she a
relation of yours? I guess not!"
"Get stuffed!" Said the geek.
"Yes, okay, exactly. Your exactly right, I'm just going to sit down
again and mind my own business!" Efof said and kept his head down.
----Flight Deck----
On the flight deck, the alert siren sounded. Rio, Kara and a few
other Blue Dwarf pilots that would normally have scrambled rushed in
all kitted up. A marine approached them.
"Its okay you lot, us marines can handle this much better than you
all can, so just leave it to the professionals!"
"Hey that's not fair!" Argued Rio.
The marine grinned to himself and ordered marines into various
starbugs and blue midgets. A bewildered marine was assigned to fly
the Raven.
"But sarge, I `aint never seen one of these before!"
"JUST FLY IT SOLDIER!" he was ordered.
