A Collector's Item

Kalena looked at him in bewilderment as he continued to rhyme his words, but then as he explained he couldn't stop himself she let out an angry sigh in realization. "Those damn little things must have bewitched you!" she exclaimed, and then heard the high, inhuman laughter ring out from above confirming her assumption. "Oh, you think you're so funny, don't you?"

She thought of hurling a spray of stones up at them, but restrained herself, not wanting to escalate a situation that she was a bit at a loss to deal with. Whilst she'd trained under masters of the killing arts, the mystic arts on the other hand was something out of her realm of expertise. Her mind raced, trying to recall the bits and pieces of folklore that she did know. Besides iron, which was very deadly and poisonous to them, she remembered once meeting someone on the road who wore a charm made of Rohirrim wood that he claimed protected him from faeries. She always meant to get one of those...

Another thing Kalena had heard was that they sometimes liked to bargain. That might be an idea worth trying. She walked up to one of the wagons, reached in and grabbed the neck of one the green-glassed bottles. She turned it around so she could read the label. "Oh look at this!" she called up to them. "A Lowson Pinot Noir, a light and fruity red wine. I doubt it's all that good, but it's the first of its kind, so that makes it a collector's item! You little fellas like to collect things, don't you?" She held up the bottle, wagging it at them. "Lift your curse on the good Captain, and this is all yours –with his compliments," she added, glancing at Kline.
