Nau & Mira: Who is Aegis
Aegis snapped awake a few hours later, returning to his conversation like nothing happened. “We’ll fine tune it over the coming days. I have other things I need to attend to first.” he said, starting to move to get off the bed, but Nau put her hand on his chest and pushed lightly, making him stay on the bed.
“No, you need to rest.” She said, “You are of no use to anyone if you continue to pass out.”
“I’ll be fine.” Aegis said trying to get up again, only to be stopped, this time Mira, not saying anything but grabbing his arm.
“You need to eat first.” Nau said, “When was the last time you ate, actually ate, I do not mean snacks or picking at a loaf of bread.”
“Two days, at least.” Aegis said. “Probably closer to three, I didn’t eat the afternoon I left for Zatar.”
Nau said something in a language Aegis didn’t speak but he understood the sentiment. Some exclamation to her god and Aegis’ own stupidity. Nau stood and glided towards the door, and called something down the hallway, getting a reply back in the same language. A small conversation went back and forth before Nau moved back to the bed. “I won’t force you to sleep, I know I can’t do that. But will you at least have a full meal before you go back to your tasks?”
“I am in no position to argue with you.” Aegis said, “I will eat.”

Mira turned to Nau once Aegis had left the room. “Is Master Aegis a wizard?” she asked, her words coming slow. “I’ve seen powerful men do all sorts of things with magic. But…” she paused, touching the small devices in her ears. “I’ve never met one that can do things like this. Even clerics couldn’t heal my ears, but he managed to fix them in just a few days. He’s almost divine.”
“A God? No no.” Nau said, “He’s nothing so complex. He is what is known as an artificer.” she said, “He is more of an inventor, who uses magic to enhance his inventions.” But Nau nodded. “He is a determined man.” She looked at Mira, “I have been here a while, and I don’t believe I’ve ever seen him find a problem he couldn’t solve, or find the answer to. Just like your hearing.”
Mira nodded, seeming to understand, or at least enough to not have follow up questions. “Where did he learn to sign?” she asked. “He doesn’t seem like the type to know such things.”
“One of the girls here Jezela had a brother that could not hear, she learned it and taught him during her time here.” she explained.
“I know it is not my place to ask…but what was he so worried about finishing?” she asked. “He collapsed from hunger and seemed more worried about a project, than his own safety.”
Nau’s face looked worried and sad, “He won’t tell anyone, it must be a massive undertaking, I’m not well versed in magic, but even I can feel how much he’s pulling on ‘The Weave’ I just hope its something he can control.” she said looking at the door out of the room.
