Life's Work

Novgorod Station > Shuttle Bay
The captain, his crew, and the founders were wrangled in a line in front of the transport shuttle.

Dr Kele Akande took Vieregg, shuffling him up next to the ever-smiling SA-Miii. Then Akande put his hand in Vieregg’s for a handshake pose as the press and teams took photographs.

“It was a pleasure to work alongside a man with such talent, and a big brain, on this project,” he beamed, his Nigerian accent could be heard through his smile. You have helped me realize my life’s work. I only regret that you could not remain on the project until its completion, but I must admit I envy you now, as the team will not be joining you on this vessel. Please send me updates on how she is doing.”

Povel’s melancholy and contemplative expression melted away to reveal a charismatic expression as he joined the others. It was difficult to tell if it was a performance, or genuine, at the beginning; however, the longer one paid attention they would see that he was being honest.

Povel smiled brightly at Dr. Akande and Sam-iii. He shook the man’s hand with equal enthusiasm. “The feelings are mutual. It was a delight to work alongside you. You are a man that I admire and respect. I am forever grateful for the synergy that helped us together navigate this scientific odyssey and accomplish a shared dream.”

Povel, still holding the man’s hand firmly, looked to Sam-iii with what one reporter would go on to write, with wonderment and adoration for accomplishing the seemingly impossible . He looked back to the good doctor. “I will miss you, my friend, on this next chapter. However, I will keep you updated and wish you Godspeed on the interesting things I know you will tackle moving forward.”

"Thank you. Thank you," he replied as he was shuffled away so that the crew would get a final shot together.
