Tarmen Enlists

Alexis looked at Voah with a gentle expression.
This had to be so unimaginable hard for her.

“I would have you any day, piuthar.”

She turned to Tarmen.

“What about you, Tarmen? I’ll imagine another suicide mission might not be your idea of a good time.”

Gonyaul felt it best to keep quiet after what he awkwardly put everyone else through. He had enough of a self introspective conversation taking place in his own head to keep him occupied anyway. What a fool he had been. How had he not recognized the burden and neglect towards Voah’s needs and feelings. He was excelling with strangers but not the woman he cared the most about.

He was silently elated that Voah had said she would be joining Alexis. He knew he loved her and wanted the opportunity of the life they had so enjoyed talking about on their journey together. At least she would still be around. That may give him a chance to make right his transgressions.

He looked to Tarmen awaiting his response. He hoped the man would be joining them too.

With everyone reaffirming their loyalties again, Tarmen did find it hard to not get swept up in the moment. It seemed to be their lot in life now to fight by each others side, bickering and being beaten the whole way.
It wasn’t boring, that was for sure. With his thoughts still being a mess of the past and future, he couldn’t bring himself to have his usual vigor. All the same, he couldn’t see himself anywhere else.

“Whether or not I fight with Death by my side, I guess you lot will have to do in its stead.”

He looked to Voah first, remembering the vow he had made. He then looked to Alexis, his tired eyes firm in his pledge.

“Thicker than blood. I’ve followed you this far and I don’t plan on leavin’ now. Whatever my worries are, they won’t stop me from seein’ this through.”

He looked down, affirming this to himself like he had signed his life way. He then stood, keeping his eyes to the floor as he excused himself.

“I want some solitude. Have some things to make peace with and don’t need to bog this pity party down with it.”

He played it off as some light ribbing to lighten the mood before making his way somewhere to be alone.

Alexis was amazed. There was no other way to describe it. Amazed that all of them would not only just accept her ludicrous story when she herself felt she was sounding like an absolute lunatic, but would also be willing to join her, without her even asking.

With all the baggage, all the doubts and worries, they might be cursing this decision along the way. A lot.
Alexis was deeply grateful all the same, as much as she’d rather knew them all to be safe and sound. It was one thing to sign herself away to something as crazy as this, and a whole different beast right drag them all with her. But it seemed there were ties between them that kept pulling them together. She wondered if those ties would unite them with Islana one day. And if there was any way they would not meet as enemies then. In this painful moment, she couldn’t see any.

Regardless.

“…Thank you. All of you.”
