The Long Road Begins

Tarmen nodded at Alexis’s observation as he came to her side on the dunes, agreeing with its wisdom while also appreciating the chance to see the small tinkerer again.
He wondered if she had the same feeling he had when looking at the small settlement, like ages had passed. He had been conflicted when they first arrived, but now that memory felt small, meaningless compared to the turmoil festering within him.
So much of his life, his history, was crumbling around him and it had shown, being sullen and quiet more so than usual. Gone was the savage that would crack a joke as they starved through the desert, though he was still bound by his promise and didn’t intend to break it.
The others were now his people, a last link to home that he wouldn’t have to try and kill in the brewing war.

As they sat with Ekero, he spoke quietly. As glad as he was to see the man, he didn’t feel like talking much and they needed the supplies anyway.

“I’ll get what we need since I’ve the coin, but we need a better way to move than on foot. Not sure if they have horses for sale here, but if I find any I’ll try and get some. Any other specifics I should look for?”
