Warding Camp

Time stamp: Sentinel Island Camp

Stepping through the damp jungle, Voah watched the leaders of the group, copying their movements and making sure to tread lightly. When she realized she was making noise she tightened the loose gear on her pack.

After a trek of 500 meters, the team came to a halt near the river and Alexis discussed the next steps. When Voah’s turn came to speak she offered quietly, “I will admit, I am curious about that wreckage but I’m afraid I’ll be of little use. I know little about sailing vessels but I would very much like to know about the scorch marks and whether the burn patterns seem natural. For now, I shall stay here with Till and set up wards as you suggested.”

As the crew left, the Arbiter began to perform a warding ritual. Instead of lighting her censer she unrolled a ceremonial pack, pulling out a small box and glass flask. From the flask she poured a thin bead of holy oil over one of the throwing knives and began to carve the lozenge into several of the trees surrounding the camp. Then she circled the camp chanting quiet prayers while sprinkling sacred salt from the small box in the lines between the major trees leaving a very specific area open. If the codex was true, a mage could be trapped inside or outside of a closed circle and for now she wanted to leave the circle unfinished.
