Interrogation

JP with Winteroak and Cindy

Sir Zane asked if Islana would accompany him. The young huntress had proven herself very resourceful. Her drive and inquisitive nature had brought together several threads that seem to point to the emergence of the Creed in Ostiarium.

They made their way to the dungeons below The Keep. Two guards were posted outside the man's cell. Wim and Alexis had done well to capture him alive.

Sir Zane however was interested in seeing how Islana dealt with taking her investigation to its conclusion. The two guards saluted the Knight.

"Do we know who he is?" He asked looking inside the cell where the man was chained to a chair.

"A fellow by the name of Garn according to the City guard. A farmhand at the Soliam steading. Lives with his wife and her sister. Sir." They opened the doors and let the Knight and huntress into the cell.

Of course, Islana had never interrogated anyone before. She wasn't exactly sure why Sir Zane had asked her to accompany him for that particular job. Still, she was definitely interested to hear what the man ,who had been brought in, had to say.

Chained to a chair, she had little sympathy for the man that found himself like that. In her mind, anyone who would do such a hideous thing didn't deserve sympathy.

Giving a polite nod to the guards, she followed Sir Zane into the cell.

The chained man seeing Sir Zane walking into the cell spat to the floor at the Knights feet, sneering. "I ain't talking," he growled. The Knight walked slowly across the cell floor and reached into his belt pulling his metal spiked gauntlets. He deliberately placed them on his hands slowly and steadily, coming to stand behind the prisoner, resting one gloved hand on his shoulder.

"Garn, Garn, Garn," he started "Who said we want you to talk?" he asked. "My redhaired friend over there already found all we needed to know." he bluffed.

"That the Creed of Slivikhi is in Ostiarium and that the time of the final sacrifice is upon us." He dug his fingers into the man shoulder. "And that you and your thugs tried to kill her and her friends." He got closer to the prisoner's ear. "We are simply here to tell you what we are going to be doing to your wife and her sister."

Sir Zane threatened but Islana could not tell if he was serious or not.

Islana watched Sir Zane with interest. He was so in control, yet there was a deadly lethalness about him. The young huntress wondered how it felt to have that kind of power.

Sir Zane's threat towards the wife and sister of Garn wasn't completely unexpected but, what if they were innocent? A thought that made her stomach slightly sink. Maybe, the Knight wasn't actually going to have them harmed or maybe they weren't innocent. Islana had no way to know. Anything, to save a child, whatever it took. She would sort out her feelings and anything weighing on her conscious about all of this - later.

Sir Zane yanked at the man's hair pulling it back. "Of course, if you tell us who the child you were planning to have murdered is, maybe my young friend there doesn't slowly slices your eyelids off, so you can't look away when we let the Keep's Garrison take turns at your wife and her sister." Behind the angry and shaking prisoner, Sir Zane looked at Islana's dagger hoping she took the hint to pull it out.

Redhaired women, as well as albino men, held a special place of terror for most uneducated people in Helias with many drawing parallels between them with witches and demons. To kill or be killed by one of them was considered a curse by many of weak minds.

Islana knew of the myths of redheaded women among those who didn't know better. It was safe that Garn was one to believe the myths.

The huntress instantly understood what the knight was trying to hint at. Keeping the thought that this man was willing to kill a child, she let her anger over that idea grow; which only took a moment.

Her hand reached down and pulled out her dagger; twirling it around her hand for a moment. Then walked towards the man in the chair.

Standing on the opposite side of the chair from Sir Zane; the young woman put her knife close the prisoner's eye. "Yes, the eyelids would be a good place to start. " Islana moved close to Garn's ear. "I won't stop with your eyes." Her blade made its way from the man's eyes, to his ears. The woman pushed the flat of the blade against the man's lobe, then moved it away.

Islana wouldn't have thought herself capable of such things, even if they were only threats, but - a child - the idea made a part of her she didn't even know she had come through.

For the next hour or so Sir Zane does his best to extract information from Garn while teaching Islana that brute force is not always the best method to do so. The threat to one's loved ones are usually more powerful that physical threat.

The man shares very little. However he eventually refers a someone known as 'The Preacher' and that they meet once every full moon in the forests.

Islana took in the lessons from Sir Zane, with a sense of relief she could back off of her own threats that went against her nature. Not sure how useful finding out about "The Preacher" was but still the woman placed it in her mind; along with the other pieces of information that had already been acquired.

Although they had not found out much more from the man, at least they had made some progress. Sir Zane ordered some guards to go and arrest his wife and sister. They might need to be protected but also be used to continue to exert pressure on the man.
