Guilt, Decisions, And Concerns

A chance to join the city militia? The offer Sir Zane had presented to Islana played in her mind with, what seemed like, thousands of scenarios depending on whether she did or didn't take it.

The young woman had agreed to stay at the barracks. She was certainly safer at the barracks; not being so naive to think she was completely out of danger from the cult. There was also Lord Vasant to consider; if he did show up, he wouldn't attack her here, in the barracks. Would he? He had his own guard and money which in her mind equaled power but how much of that power would transfer to here?

She was taking advantage of the empty practice range to shoot some arrows at some target and clear her mind, a little. Islana assumed most of the guard had gone or, more likely, been assigned to the hanging in the square.

Should she go and witness what she felt very much like she had set in motion, or was staying here the better option. It might have been safer but better was questionable. Would her mind allow her to sleep if she ignored what was happening? Would it allow her to sleep if she made herself witness it? At this point Islana was certain that sleep would just keep escaping her, no matter which option she chose.

If being in the militia became the young huntress' future there would be no outs of things like raids or public executions, at least that was how Islana understood it. There would be no just leaving; her ideas of going back to live in the woods all vanished.

Of course, it did bring up the question if living in the woods again was truly what she wanted. Could it just be a knee jerk reaction when things got difficult or hard to deal with? The redhead had been on the run for so long before arriving here. It had been a part of her life but she honestly had been relieved when that didn't have to be the case any longer. So, why now was her mind filled with the idea of going back to that.

There were some obvious advantages to be part of the militia. Other than the obvious protection it offered. She would be learning things that would help her defend herself. Something Islana wanted. The young huntress had also realized that there could be a lot learned under the command of Alexis. It wasn't even something that had to be witnessed, Alexis just gave her that impression.

Answers weren't coming to her, so, the woman picked her arrows out of the target and put them in her quiver before venturing around the ground a little more.

Still,no answers. Still the nagging feeling she should make herself witness the execution. The words, " It's your fault. Jiyn and Hendrick dead; your fault. People being hung today; your fault. You know you need to see what you did. Stop being so selfish and stupid." Closing her eyes for a moment, there came a vision of a whip.

Islana quickly opened her eyes, looked around but fortunately no one was around. Taking a few deep breaths, the woman made one decision but it was her guilt guiding her more than anything. Islana left the keep to head to the execution. Making certain to find a crowd to walk with so she could blend in.
