For A Good Cause

The boy seemed to have calmed down and greedily ate the food offered to him. He sat close to Islana the whole time looking at Wim and Blackwolf with a suspicious look. When Islana spoke his eyes darted to her especially to her hair. All the while he kept hold of the index finger bone as if it was a trophy.

When Islana asked the others what they should do with the boy, as a coincidence or in reply, the boy stood up and started talking, pointing with the bone to the hills above the fort.

Islana's eyes moved back to the boy as he stood up and pointed to the hills. That had to be a coincidence right?

"Maybe, he's answered the question." Islana commented, "Should we go over there and see if we can figure out what happened?"

There were all kinds of things that could go wrong with that idea but it was also their only clue.

The boy looked at the two men before reaching out and holding Islana's hand. Still pointing upwards to the hills with his other hand holding the index bone finger.

Wim came over and got beside the boy. In the gravely dirt he drew a stck figure then pointed at the boy and then the figure. Then did it again pointing up the hill. Then drew more little figures and pointed up the hill.
He was trying to ask if there were more children up the hill and if they should bring more food.

The boy looked at Wim with a blank expression and looked back at Islana tugging her hand, still pointing and talking in his language.

Islana looked at Wim, as he drew on the ground. It wasn't surprising that the boy didn't understand but at least the man had tried.

"I think we're not going to be able to find out anything until we go over there."

Islana was sounding even more determined to go, and try to figure out what was over where the boy was pointing.

Wim shook his head and walked away to pack some gear to bring with them.

Looking at Islana and the boy Wolf raised his hands slightly in surrender. "Win just break camp I have a feeling it could be a while before we return. String bows and keep your weapons at the ready. I don't know what we will be getting into." Informed Wolf.

Wolf looked back in the direction of the Boy and where the boy was pointing. "If things go bad and we get separated we rally here," said Wolf.

Islana was grateful them two men had agreed to go rather than attempting the feat of trying to talk her out of it. With how determined she was it would have been difficult.

She began to make what preparations she needed to. Making sure things were packed and her bow, arrows and spear ready. Before she went over to River, the boy was never far from her, and non-verbally informed the palomino that they'd have one extra on their journeys.

As you leave the fort directed by the strange boy that takes you to the twisting and rocky pathways of the hills above the fort. It becomes clear very quickly that soon you will not be able to ride your horses and will have to lead them. They are too heavy for this type of terrain and can become lame.

Islana got off of River, followed closely by the boy as soon as it became clear riding the horse wouldn't work.

As the young hunteress went to the front of River to take the horse's lead, she caught the expression on the palomino's face. What have you gotten me into?

Don't look at me like that. Islana thought as she petted the animal's forehead and looked at the boy. It's for a good cause.
