Emotions Boiling Over

Sam wrapped an arm about Topusana ‘a arm, interlacing his fingers with hers as they walked. It made sense for his best friend to be his soulmate.

He was the first to speak. “Your actions the las time I saw you. I realize they came from deep inside. It causes me to think of our relationship.” He paused here as if searching for the words. “I’m sorry for not seeing it.” Another pause, then softer yet, as he turned to her and his free hand tenderly cupping Toppy’s cheek. “When did our feelings for each other change?”

Embry sighed. He wasn’t sure if it was because of his horrible day, or if it was because Kate wanted to get down to business instead of down to business. She was right; the family deserved to know.

“Have I told you how much I hate politics,” Jack flatly stated. “It’s shitty! The state commissioner is coming here. Here of all places! I had to turn in my badge because of the suspension. They’re still holding him in prison, but after tomorrow, I can’t guarantee it. I’ve contacted a guy I know in the CIA. He’s coming tomorrow. He said they’ve been trying to break this cartel for some time now. The captain told me I’m lucky he didn’t fire me. I almost told him to shove my badge up his ass!” Embry stopped for a breath. It was just a thought, but worth a try. “You wouldn’t need a head of ranch security here, would you?” This would give him the opportunity to defend Kate and her family as well as to see her more often.
