Hard work

Alex lifted up the fallen fence board, holding it out in a place with one arm as the other hammered it into place. The ranch always had some that needed fixing or an animal that needed caring for. Alex didn't mind that though he had been doing this for almost ten years and had down quite proficient at it.

"It has been almost a decade hasn't it?" He asked himself hammering in another nail. He remembered how he had finally after his dad had nearly taken his eye out after another argument, leaving a scar across his face to go with the many across his body. After getting back from the hospital he snuck out and never looked back. It was hard as he had mainly stuck to walking and living in the woods for the first couple of months as he traveled as far away as he could from his parents. Eventually, Miss King found him walking along the road miles away from the next town. After a brief conversation, she had offered him a place to stay for the night in exchange for some work and he had been here ever since, only leaving the ranch when the Kings needed help running errands.

"Maybe I should celebrate," he thought to himself before shaking his head, he wasn't anything special just another worker. Besides it was not like he had anyone to celebrate with, he kept to himself even choosing to just camp near the sections of the Ranch he was working on the next day. After making sure the fence would hold, he picked up his toolbox and continued walking the fence line to make sure there weren't any more broken areas.
