Chapter 1 Pt 3

the next morning saw the girls up bright and early. Rainey bailed on breakfast but that was normal. Marley stuffed so much in her face Kate thought she would throw up. also, normal. by the time the girls made it to the barn Rainey was already gone. "Hey, were did she head to?" Kate asked a stable boy "pasture 7 broken fence line out there." Kate nodded "Marley you catch up to her and help her with that, ill round the hands and we will push the herd from pasture 7 to pasture 9 so they don't get out." Marley gave her a salute " Ey Ey captain." she teased before headed off to saddle her horse and head out.

By the time Rainey got to the broken fence on of the hands was already working on it. she looked down at him from her horse." what do we think tore it down? the herd, a person or old age?" she asked before sliding down to help him. "not that it matters much." she said looking back at the other half of the fence that had recently been redone in barbed wire. "gotta replace the whole stretch anyway. we can finish what you're doing just so no cows get out but when Kate gets here with the stuff, we are going to have to take it back down and finish this stretch." she said.
Rainey wasn't much for talking but this didn't count. this was work and work she could do. the hands name was Alex. he had worked for their family for years and he was always easy to talk to Cuz he was quiet his self so only really said what he needed to. no extra convo, no how's the weather or what's your mom up to. she liked that.

Back at The House

Amelia sat in her office one hand rubbing her forehead as the other went back and for between a paper and calculator as she ran numbers for the next month. she herd steps and a slam of the front door. that wasn't the girls they were long gone. had to be David. she looked out of her office window and sure enough he was pulling down the drive headed for town. she shook her head. he would most definitely not be getting any part of the ranch. all he would do is drink it away or snort it away. with a sigh she sank back down at her desk and went back to her part of keeping it running.
