Getting Things Straight

Marley waved to sam whith a bright smile as they got closer." morning!!" she chirped as she slid from her horse and practicly bounced over to them with a sullen rainey following behind her.

The cheerful nature of his new friend caused Sam to smile. “Good Morning, Sunshine!”

”Hey twinsies" she said and poited to sams black eye then her own.

Sam snickered, “Yeh! How about that!” At least Marley was still making light of it.

Kate gave orders to some of the other ranch hands then joined them. "yes about that.. that should not have happened. its not a good look for you to put your bosses daughter in harms way in less than 24 hours of being employed. i fully expect nothing like that to happen again."

Sam sobered up at Kate’s tone. “Be assured,” he insisted with a pledge, “I will not allow it to happen again. I will personally take Marley under my wing to protect her from anything meant to harm her!”

Seeing Marley rolling her eyes behind Kate, Sam grinned and winked at Marley. She certainly earned the nickname Sunshine from him.

Then Sam watched as Marley rode off, wondering what she would be doing the rest of the day. Sam was about to return to work when his phone buzzed. It was a text from Toppy hey...I'm sorry about the fight with your friend. I was just upset you were leaving. I know I acted insane and it wasn't right of me...still friends?

Sam smiled and typed back, “Friend? I can’t imagine my life without you in it! So, you got the roses? I bet they’re as beautiful as you!

After sending the text, Sam got upon Pale Moon and rode after Marley. She would need help, so he guessed he’d be one to help his new friend. It didn’t take long before he caught her.

“You got me,” Sam said with a smirk. “I’m with you!”

Embry had communications up and going in the unused bunkhouse. He had his men in position. Between the three of them, they could monitor the entire southern boundary of the ranch lands. This was next to the border with Mexico. Jack was certain the cartels were sending their mules across the border near the Kings’ land. He was determined to stop them.

Embry was also determined to communicate any progress with Kate. The more he communicated with her, keeping her in the loop, the better. After all, she had been generous offering this place for the operations center. It was perfect. He couldn’t wait to deliver her the first report and gaze upon her gorgeous features.

Embry leaned back in a chair, putting the snake-skinned booted feet upon the communications table. He took a sip of his coffee and grinned thinking of the fiery redhead. Calling to each of his officers, Jack did a position check with them.
