An Unpleasant Visit

Elizabeth gave enough time for Dr. Jackal to be out of the house before telling Harold to show the Baron to her office. She stood at her desk, giving only the proper curtsy to the man who entered and closed the door behind him. Baron Greenwood then took a seat before Elizabeth could offer one. He did not look happy.

“Lady Elizabeth, do you know why I am here?” Greenwood’s tone was sharp, It was clear he expected her to know the answer.

The temptation to say she wasn’t a mind reader crossed her mind but she knew better than to utter those words out loud. “I suppose I do, Baron. You are not happy with the events of earlier today.”

“Precisely, I want you to tell me why I should keep the doctor on your team and why your team shouldn’t just be disbanded. I knew giving you this position before you had a chance to be a team member was a bad idea.” The Baron went on about how Elizabeth seemed to think she could just hire anyone, about how he had been certain her team would fail at the mission. “After the mess your team made of things I sent some agents to check it out. ONe of them found out the leaders had left Paris. In an airship. To parts unknown. Now, I have to send out solo agents to track them down.”

“But…my team could…” The Baron interrupted Elizabeth.

“No, “ The Baron started, “They know who you are. Maybe, after we find them I can bring your team back in but not now. Other than finding what you can, tomorrow, at the Children of The Sea’s complex, your team is done with investigating them in the field.”

Elizabeth looked at the Baron, “So, I still have a team.”

“I can not go against your father’s wishes, so yes, for now.” The Baron paused. “And to that end I can not reassign Dr. Jackal.” Even it was clear the Baron wanted to. >Now, did anything useful come from all of that beyond Miss Lavigne and Dr. Jackal being rescued, what happened to Miss Lavigne’s father?”

“He was killed by a cult member,” E;ozabetj responded.

“Well, at least Dr. Jackal’s demon or whatever wasn’t responsible for that.” The Baron said with almost a disgusted tone.

“And yes, something beyond the rescue did occur that was useful.” Elizabeth went to the safe and pulled out a statue. “The Visage, recovered and as you can see in one piece.”

The Baron picked it up and looked it over, “Very good. I won’t take it with me now but will want it in the next few days.
“Understood,” Now was not the time to argue with the man or ask for favors so she didn’t mention Vor’s request about the Eye of the Sea.

“Also, the team rescued an Orc who is here now. He seems to have been injected with Lamaire’s serum but it had no effect on him. Dr. Jackal was going to look more into it.” Elizabeth explained.

“I see. Well, the doctor should continue his work with all of that. However, I want the Orc to my office the day after tomorrow, bring along your two new team members as well. I want to meet all of them.” The Baron said.

“I haven’t made the Orc a member, I had no plans in doing so. If I find something else for him to do, can he just maybe leave without becoming a member?” It seemed wrong to tie up the Orc for the rest of his life with all of this.

“I guess so.” The Baron surprisingly let the matter drop for the moment.

He went over a few other things. Mostly lecturing Elizabeth on Order things and protocol before taking his leave. She was so happy to watch him go that she showed the Baron to the door herself before returning to her office and back to the mounds of paperwork.
