It’s time for the 2016 Tournament of Simulations (ToS)

ToS2016That’s right, it’s time for our annual Tournament of Simulations (ToS) competition!  Role players, hosts, and club leaders alike are all hereby invited to enter their games/sims/role plays in the the oldest and most prestigious competition of the entire simming and online roleplaying universe (yes, it’s ToS!).  Indeed, Ongoing Worlds is officially calling on on YOU (yes, you!) to enter your simulations and online role plays in the 2016 edition of ToS.  This will be the 12th tournament to be held (the first happened in 1999).  Nominations will be accepted through January 31st, 2017. Winners will be announced sometime later.  Here’s how to enter:

The Rules (there aren’t many)

  • Anyone may enter any game that they are a part of
    • Players: role plays they participate in
    • Hosts: role plays they lead
    • Club leaders: role plays in their clubs
    • Plus anyone else I’m missing!
  • There is no limit to the number of nominations one may make
  • Games that do not place will not be announced–so there’s nothing to lose from entering!
    • But don’t throw a temper tantrum if you don’t win (not everyone can win!)
  • Posts and chat logs must be open for public viewing and not password protected.

How to Enter

Nominations shall be made using the form below.  Just as with last year’s competition, judges will only be reading 10 posts from each play-by-post sim entrant.  Play-by-post games should submit a URL for a single post.  The judges will then read that post and the following nine (for 10 total).  Chat games should submit a URL for one chat log.  Since the judges may need context, you are permitted to submit up to 250 words for a backstory and 250 words for what follows the post.

UPDATE (1/21/2017): Server issues are causing truncated web entry forms to be submitted.  As a result, please email all entry forms with the following information to star [dot] idf [at] gmail [dot] com.  “ToS Nomination” should be placed in the subject line.  All entries will receive a confirmation email within 24 hours.  If you previously submitted a nomination but did not receive a confirmation, we did not receive your entry.

  1. Your Name
  2. Your Email
  3. Nominee Name
  4. Nominee Genre
  5. Nominee Category: Play-by-Post (message board, email, Nova, etc.) or Chat
  6. URL for first post to read (Play-by-Post) or chat log (Chat)
  7. Backstory (≤ 250 words)
  8. Poststory (≤ 250 words)
  9. Yes/No – I am interested in also serving as a judge (this will not affect my nominee)

Each nominee’s posts or chat logs will be graded by a panel of impartial judges using set criteria.  Winners will be announced by genre and category sometime in 2017.  If you would like to volunteer to serve a s judge (and we need judges!), please email me at star [dot] idf [at] gmail [dot] com.  Serving as a judge will NOT affect your game’s changes of winning as you will NOT grade any sims that directly compete against your own.  No prior experience is necessary!

Also, if you haven’t yet read our article from earlier this month on how to win awards, do so today!

Good luck, everyone and happy 2017!
