Written by Charles Star and Jonathan Swift from Independence Fleet.
A disturbing trend developed during 2012. First, in May, an unidentified party filed a Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) complaint against the Simming Encyclopedia (SimEnc). Later that summer, at least three individuals filed similar DMCA complaints against our home club, Independence Fleet. Read More

There have been many, many articles written — both here on the Ongoing Worlds blog and elsewhere — about how to improve your roleplaying, how to be a better gamer and how to improve your writing. In the interests of a fair and balanced approach, I felt it was time someone wrote a step-by-step guide on how to be an awful roleplayer, how to flat out suck at this past-time we all enjoy. Welcome young traveller to the pit, sit down, put your feet up and relax. Let me regale you with stories of what has happened on OngoingWorlds’ games this month:
What is Here and Now – Taking up the story after What Will be, Will be, our young friends have passed from the cusp of childhood and now enter the wild world of college. Featuring a rather diverse cast of personalities, there is always something for everyone on campus. James Taylor, a young budding musician has made some friends with both the staff and the students. Although he is a party animal, he has yet to show his serious side to people. Read More

So, you want to roleplay, good. That will help stimulate your imagination, give you an outlet to be someone or something else, see things you never imagined you would, while sharing the experience with like-minded people.
Now, what you will see or experience while roleplaying will depend on what the genre of the game is. If it’s science-fiction you can go anywhere you can see the future going, even alter the past. Fantasy gives you things from your wildest dreams, mixture of sorcery and sword play, faeries and dragons, witches and castles. Mystery, allows you to be a detective and solve a crime or find something, power of deduction. Hi roleplayer dudes! At the start of May there’ll be an online chat event for all us roleplayers called SciWorld. SciWorld isn’t a new thing, it’s been a yearly thing for 10 years, and last year OngoingWorlds had the amazing opportunity to sponsor it, which meant I banged on about it enough to bore you all into a coma! But as it happens, it was all worth it, because it was an amazing event, and loads of roleplayers all got together for a chat, shared ideas, got to know new people, and generally had a good time.
This years will be happening on Wednesday May 1st – Friday May 3rd. So that’s a 3 day convention. What’s best (In my opinion) about SciWorld is it’s a convention you can attend in your pyjamas. It’s completely online, and takes place in a chatroom. Read More

We’ve posted a few articles about Mary Sue characters in roleplaying games (you can see them here), but what exactly is a Mary Sue? There’s obviously the story of the very first Mary Sue character, but the term means different things to different people.
There was a discussion about this on RPG-Directory this week, which was quite enlightening, and here are the highlights: Read More
