Nowhere to go

<snip> "You getting the cleaning bill." Jessie said with a slur and
missing a word or two from the sentence.
"Nah, nah, nah. I can fix that." Guinevere said pulling out a
grease rag from her overalls and starting bending down to wipe up
the sick.
*Bonk* the two girls heads collided.
"What you hit me for?" The two girls yelled at one another. <end snip>
"Righ', that duzzit," threatened Jessie, and took a swing at the
inebriated engineer, but, being similarly drunk, she missed.
Guinevere ducked anyway, lost her balance, and fell over. Jessie
would have taken advantage of this, but she was interrupted by the PA
system. "This is a Shipwide announcement, All Defense teams to
positions!" She shook her head, and steadied herself against the wall
to kick off her ruined boots (completely missing Guinevere - life
just isn't fair). Then, leaving Guinevere on the floor - Jessie was
having a hard enough time keeping herself upright, let alone anyone
else - she waited for Chrizla to leave Parrott's, then followed him
to the control room.
When she arrived there, everyone else was already in position, but
when she moved to an empty station Jack stopped her. "And where have
you been?" he asked.
"Sorry. I went down to Parrott's." was what she wanted to say, but
ended up mumbling "Sorry... was in parrotts..." That last drink had
definitely been a mistake. When he started yelling, she just let it
all wash over her. In her drunken state, it felt good to be screamed
at, it made her feel like one of the crew.
When she started paying attention again, Jessie realised that she'd
just been banned from the bar. Oh, well, it was only going to be
temporary, and she probably didn't need the alcohol anyway. Her head
started to spin again, from the effort of thinking, but she could
still hear clearly enough to understand what Jack was telling her.
"I take it you heard that, so please, do yourself a favour, and go
home." he said, then waited. Jessie just stood there, silently. Just
as Jack was about to repeat the order, she responded, surprisingly
calm and coherent for someone in her state. "Haven't been assigned
quarters yet, sir."
<tag Jack - you got off lightly that time...>
