The Patient - part 2

Who: The patient
Where: Some hospital/research facility
When: Present time
The patent opened his eyes again. There were more this time, all
gathered around him. They were doctors, or scientists, he couldn't
tell. They all wore a face mask and goggles, but it wasn't clear if
it was to protect him or them.
The drugs they had given him were making him groggy and feel
extremely far away, but the people were definitely digging around
inside his body. He couldn't feel any pain but he could feel their
instruments scraping against his insides. It was an unusual feeling,
and wasn't entirely unpleasant. Like someone was finally scratching
that itch that he'd not been able to scratch for years.
They pulled out an organ from his body and trimmed off the little
stringy bits that were connecting it. He tried to shout out that he
probably needed that back, but the drugs were making his voice weak.
He waited a few minutes with no ill effects and then assumed the
organ probably wasn't needed.
He sighed in relief, which caught the attention of one of the
doctors. The scientist's eyes quickly looked from the patient to
another scientist, who moved around to the patient's head, beyond his
field of vision. All he saw next was a breathing apparatus being
clamped down onto his face. It was soothing. So soothing that he fell
asleep.
