Jed - "Prison changes a man"

Who: Jedidiah Calvert
Where: Blue Dwarf's brig
When: A day after Nikki threw alcohol onto him
Jed woke up and felt the cold cell floor on his face. Cells on the
Blue Dwarf were the only thing worse than the crew quarters, they
were stark, damp and horrible.
"Wake up Jed, I've got your medicine." Said a friendly female voice.
Jed felt comforted by this, but when he got up to look at her he
remembered where he was and what had happened.
Nikki was stood there at the opposite side of the forcefield with a
bottle of whiskey in one hand and a glass of ice in the other. She
poured a full glass of it and passed it through a hatch at the side
of the forcefield.
"Drink it all up Jed, so we don't get a repeat of what happened last
time." She said in a friendly tone that made Jed unsure if she was
being genuine or just to keep him calm.
"Jedidiah, please." he said
"Sorry?"
"I want you to call me Jedidiah. I hate the name Jed." He said fairly
curtly. He rubbed his face and watched as she pushed the liquid
through the hatch.
"Sorry of course. You're Jedidiah, first officer of the... the..."
"SCS York!" He said.
"Oh yeah of course." She said. "Now drink up! You've been far too
long without this, I'm already late for my shift and was worried that
you'd have already turned into that... thing again before I got here."
Jed sniffed the whiskey. It smelled bad.
"What 'thing'?" He asked.
Nikki put her forehead in her hands. She didn't want to have to
explain this to him. "I'll tell you after you drink it all up. Come
on, there isn't much time left!"
Jed sniffed the whiskey and sipped it. Then he put it down and folded
his arms. "No." He protested.
"What?"
"I said no." Jed said. His Texan accent showing more now he was
getting angry. "It's cheap horrible whiskey. It smells like piss and
I hate whiskey anyway. You expect me to drink cheap horrible whiskey
first thing in the morning without even telling me why?"
Nikki nodded. "Doctors orders. And I heard you used to like whiskey?"
"Tell me WHY dammit!" He demanded, standing up. Nikki was conforted
by the fact there was an invisible forcefield between them. "Also,
why am I in prison? I'm the first officer of the SCS York! I'm not a
criminal!"
"Drink the whiskey." Nikki ordered.
"You do NOT boss me around!" Jed said. "I demand to know why I'm
here. I've done nothing wrong."
"Nothing you 'remember'" Nikki corrected.
"I've done NOTHING wrong!" Jed said, then fell to his knees clutching
his head. "What's happening? I'm so ....thirsty...."
Nikki knew it was starting. "Then drink the whiskey!" She knew that
if he didn't drink it now that it would be much harder to get him to
drink it AFTER he was a Hymenoptera. "Drink it!"
"No... tastes like... piss... I want... blood." The glass smashed on
the floor and the whiskey spilled everywhere, there was no way he
could drink it now.
Nikki bit her lip. It was her fault. It was her fault for being late,
and because she was late she didn't have time to get the good
whiskey. She looked at the bottle of whiskey in her hand and at the
control panel on the wall that deactivated the forcefield.
Maybe she still had time....
