Rosette - "Guard Duty"

Who: Rosette
When: About now
Where: A few places.
Space. Quiet, Dark, lonely, and scary. It was like this without everyone locking themselves away to escape the new Captain. Rosette knew something was wrong with her long before she'd met her, entirely because everyone was doing their best to avoid her.
"Maybe people are just busy!" people had said, "maybe people are just wary of someone new" others had said. It was true, on both counts. No one had liked the last captain that the JMC had given them, because he'd turned out to be a Hymenoptera.
Luckily for them, the Hymenoptera hive-mind was no more. This meant they could roam the galaxy knowing that there was nothing the bugs could do any more.
"Lientenant!" Captain Castillo had called. On instinct from her training, Rosette spun around to view the newcomer, and upon noticing who it was, she snapped off a regulation salute, no swirling.
"Am I to assume you are the new Captain?" She asked, and once her salute had ended, she extended her hand in greeting. "Rosette Lachance, chief of Security." she said. Her handshake wasn't accepted, forcing her to awkwardly retract her hand.
"Litenant, I have a job for you. It is for your best men, and iz of utmost importance." She said, handing over a clipboard of specifications.
"It's a box." Rosette said, as this was all the paperwork said.
"It is an important box." Castillo said.
"It's a big box." Rosette clarified, "I need to know if there is anything hazardous, dangerous, poisonous, alive, or anything else that might pose a threat to the crew, so I can take the proper precautions." She said, handing the clipboard back to the Captain. This was all according to Space Corps regulations, and Rosette had done nothing wrong that she knew of. Instead of receiving her answer, she got a slap across the face.
"Non!" Castillo snapped. "You vill do as I say, and nussing more." She added, then turned and walked away.
"It will arrive in four hours." Castillo had said before she left Rosette's office.

Four Hours Later

"Ok, bring it down." Rosette said, half assed. The giant crate, almost the size of a blue midget, landed softly on the deck. The freight craft took off as soon as it was cleared, and headed back to Earth, leaving the crew of the Blue Dwarf to deal with it.
It was already off to one side, keeping out of the way of the general traffic in and out of the 'Dwarf.
It was a metal crate, solid walls with no viewport, and any attempts to scan it came back with nothing. Nonetheless, as the new Captain had ordered, Rosette's best people were on it, which included shift work, herself included in that rota.
A desk had been set up nearby so she could continue to coordinate shipwide security while she was on her watch-shift.
"I don't get what this is all about..." she said, staring up at the 'Fragile' marking, and big JMC logo. Regardless of the amount of security personnel that had been posted to this job, Castillo had demanded more guards be put on. Rosette had outright refused to reduce the security on the rest of the ship without a good reason, and no matter how high Castillo would take it, Rosette would not put any more of her crew on it. This hadn't gone down well so far, and most likely wasn't going to make her popular at department-head meetings.
"I wonder if Rufus could get me a view of the inside of this thing..." she mused as she made her rounds of the habitation decks.
