a Giant "Laser"

"You have got to be smegging joking!?" she snapped, rounding on Jamie "You went up against a female Haruk with nothing but a mildly intimidating manner and an empty gun? Are you smegging mad!?"
"Well..." Jamie muttered, scratching the back of his head and gazing down at his feet - He had kinda hoped this damned woman would at least have been grateful.

"I mean come on" Cass demanded, looking between Garth and Jamie "Who the hell came up with that brilliant plan!?"

Jamie sighed. Thankfully Cass didn't pay any attention to it as she had to concentrate harder than he did on understanding the Ssala language. Over 10 years, the relatively simple language had become second nature to him, so was able to go through the complex thought process of whether Cass should actually escape the room, or become an accidental casualty of rudeness.

Fortunately for Cass, Jamie's wish to finally leave the planet was greater, regardless of the state of the ship he was going to be staying on. He just followed her out.

<snip>
“It’s her!” a voice cried
Squinting up through the smoke into the sunlight, Cass could just about make out the figures sat astride the huge beast
“Jay?” she asked, her voice barely above a whisper, not even daring to hope that he might be here
“Cass!” a familiar voice yelled as a rope ladder snaked down the side of the huge beast, Jay following it seconds later
“You came!” she cried, sprinting towards him and catching him up in a clumsy embrace as soon as he had set foot on the floor, her lips finding his as the chaos and violence surrounding them was forgotten in a brief but joyously blissful moment of reunion
“I love you” she breathed, gazing into his eyes as they finally broke it off
</snip>

"Oh, you love him, even though we're the ones that risked our necks against that Haruk in there?" Jamie asked, motioning to Garth as well. His fingers hurt as the swooshing motion of his hand sent excess blood that way thanks to gravity, but it was nothing a couple of days couldn't fix. It was nothing more than a bruise, but still hurt.

"[[Smegging women.]]" Jamie swore under his breath in the Ssalan language. An unlikely thing for Cass to have heard before, given that the word "smegging" had only been taught to the Ssalan people since he had been here, and it was unlikely to have been passed on to the Haruk. Jamie had since picked up on using the Ssalan version of the word, as the only times he had need of speaking, it was with the Ssalan tribes below his house.

Anyway, I digress.

The Haruk had, since all the chaos in the arena, managed to power up a laser cannon of some kind from the wreckage of the city, and were firing it towards their giant Dinosaur.

"Whoever is driving this thing, get us out of here!" someone yelled. It wasn't important who, as the dinosaur was obviously scared by the laser fire, and began to run of its own accord. it appeared that everyone was already on the Howdah on the back of the beast, so as it trampled the Haruk - and some unlucky Ssala, it headed away from the laser cannon.

<Tag. Can we use the laser cannon to our advantage, or is it now a lost cause?>
