Coffee.

"Does that make coffee?" Larry asked, indicating the mechanism.
"Actually," Marlene replied, somewhat taken by surprise, "it's a printer..."
Larry rolled his eyes and sighed to himself.
"And coffee's not actually that good unless it's been specially enriched
with the old earth term 'java'." Marlene continued, pausing to start rooting
around in the large crate. Presently she pulled out a large and antiquated
looking machine that had lots of nozzles, warning notices and yellow and
black hazard tape holding bits of it together.
With some reverence she found a universal socket and discovered that the
plug on this machine was too old to even fit a universal socket.
From the disturbed sack in the crate rose the tantalising aroma of coffee
beans.
"Science to engineering, this is a request for an engineer to attend Cauty's
office on the science deck. This is an urgent request, priority alpha."
Rongside grabbed the intercom. The science officers sat round and stared
longingly at the machine.
"Uhhh.. so welcome aboard." Marlene said eventually.
Outside someone was having hysterics about the failure of the experiment. A
more senior someone was busy telling the hysterical someone that the
research into cancer cure, brain degeneration and general disease would
obviously have to be terminated since the hysterical someone couldn't get
the lubrication to drip properly.
"Hazard suit, anyone?" a rastafarian smoking something that looked illegal
on several worlds put his head round the door.
"You're not wearing one." Marlene pointed out.
"Yeah, mon, but suits are for white folks." the odd man replied and sulked
out.
The science officers exchanged glances and then resumed their study of the
coffee machine.
