Power!

"Wow." Said Jamie, standing at the entrance to Engineering onboard the Sovereign.

"Just.. Wow."

"What, is it good?" Eve asked, who had shown up with Jaxx to lend a hand.

"This ship hasn't been running for millions of years, and here it is, powering the entirety of a Dwarf class mining ship." He said, taking it all in.

The Sovereign itself was crisp, lightly coloured, and in full working order. The core hummed like a late 21st century Ferrari, after they'd fixed the whole 'catching fire' thing. The engine room itself was by far the largest room in the ship. A walkway stretched out across the centre of the room, a basic force field protecting people from falling the twenty or so feet to the bottom. Surrounding this walkway, at the very limits of the room was a metal ring, brushes much like that of a motor sat on the inside, connected to the core itself.

"But the Blue Dwarf has been running that long, doesn't that make it better?" Eve asked. Jaxx just listened, not understanding the awe that Jamie spoke with.

"It's different." Jamie said. "This ship has been laying dormant. Without power running through systems, they degrade, and fall apart. but this one just started up without problems. If I can get this hooked up to the 'Dwarf, we'll not have any power issues for a very long time."

Jamie took a deep breath, and worked some things out in his head.

"Eve, can you take Jaxx, and grab the cables from the side of the landing bay. They're big and heavy, so Jaxx will need to move them. If you have trouble, see if Cass can offer up a robot or two to lend a hand." Jamie said, switching into the Command mode he had, but hadn't used since the SS Hercules, back when he had an engineering team.

"make sure they're connected to the wall, and bring the other ends here." He ended his request, and jumped down the few steps to the walkway that headed to the core.

Now in solitude, Jamie approached the core of the ship tentatively. He reached out a hand, and touched the metal surface gently.

"It's ok, girl. We're going to look after you now." He said.

It was a few hours later when the Quantum Tunnelling drive came online. Eve & Jaxx had brought the cables, and they were all connected up. A makeshift cradle had been constructed around the Sovereign in the landing bay to keep it stable, and to connect the hull of both ships together.

"Ok, try that." Jamie called, having just made some adjustments to the system.

"Nothing. It just powers down the drive when we try to spin it up." Eve said, though that much was obvious from the way the ring started to move, then stopped.

A couple more hours passed.

"Pass me the meter." Jamie said, his head and shoulders were inside a control panel, and a hand dangled outside it. Eve gave him the meter, and it vanished into the panel.

"Ahha." his voice echoed a bit within the chamber inside the control panel.

Soon, he emerged.

"Jaxx. can you run this up to Cass and Jay - they'll understand it." Jamie asked, handing him the meter that he'd just used.

"Uh, Ok dude." Jaxx said, and turned to leave.

"Actually, go with him if you want, There's not much more we can do here for now." Jamie said to Eve. "I'm going to get some rest, it'll take a couple of hours for them to do whats on there, and it'll take a while to get up to wherever they are anyway."

<tag guys. The meter shows power levels - I figure the core on the Sovereign is enough to power the Dwarf, but it doesn't have enough to do the QT for the Dwarf too. Need one of you to figure out that we can use the ramscoop boussard collectors for that power requirement. Jamie's space corps ships never had one, so it's very easy to overlook. They probably haven't been used since the wormhole drive!>
