Slice and Dice

“You’re good, I’ll give you that.” Tara snarled, stepping towards Jade. “You’re everything that I always wanted to be. You have it all.” Tara snarled, advancing. Jade sidestepped and moved between Tara and the bed.

“Yes, but you have a family. Something I never could.” She said, scanning about for something to protect herself with.

“Your crew profile reads like a successful version of my own. I applied to the space corps…” The image of the hologram glitched and changed. Projecting an image of a busty, attractive page three model.

Oh, also the queen.

“And you. You are a snivelling failure. Of all the things I have done. You I am most dis…dis…” The image flickered again. A tall man with lank brown hair, soft charming features smiley wryly at them both.

“Disappointed. You took away my security rights, you shunned me. You shouted at me.” Solvay stalked ever closer to the girls before the image again distorted and returned to Tara. Cass grimaced and bit her lip as the automated systems deployed the nanites into her system, Grovely coming through on his promise. Tara howled with rage and lunged forwards, Jade took advantage of the emotion fuelled act and was able to send Tara skittering across the floor with a well-placed leg.

“No!” She hissed, watching as Jade hastily unplugged Cass and helped her across the room towards the door. “I’ll stop you from using more. I’ll kill you all!” Tara lunged, rather than for the girls, she grabbed hold of the console and began to download herself into it.

“We have to stop her.” Cass said, her face screwing up in agony as the nanites stimulated her bone marrow for red blood cell production and began to chew away at scarring tissue to repair the damage. She made a soft noise and could only take a couple of steps before she stumbled with a groan.

“Too late!” Tara said, with an echoing laugh and vanished. The light bee falling empty to the floor.

“Bing bong. Hi di hi campers! This is your Captain speaking!” Echoed the eerie voice of Captain Cannon across the loud speakers. “Your new resort destination has been selected. All GELF are to report to the lobby for immediate termination.” There was an echoing laugh, female now recognisable as interchanging between that of Alota Chrysler and Katrina Chrysler.

“Mr Chrysler, this is your wives speaking. Please report to the nearest air lock for zero G training. Space suits will be provided upon survival of the vacuum of space.” The speakers crackled and Tara’s voice emanated

“Please give the medical lounge a wide berth. It’s about to get messy.” The manic laughter faded out “

"What the heck is going on?" Jade asked, as the medical doors slammed closed and locked.

"I think she's filled in the gaps in her memory by downloading the memories of other crew members. It's totally corrupted her mainframe. I am so going to kill her." Cass cringed again and leaned heavily on Jade. Jade brushed a short strand of hair from Cass' eyes and raised an eyebrow.

"Yeah, I think there might be a bit of a queue." She smiled. Which is when the automated diagnostic and repair robot kicked into life.

"Carcinoma detected. Engaging surgery mode. Please hold still whilst we administer anaesthesia." The fluids ejected harmlessly into the air in an arc. The two girls backed off, but the arms of the machine grabbed out for Cass.

Both women hit the desk as the arms reached out harmlessly over their heads. When she was checking Cass to see if she was ok, the machine gripped onto Jade's ankle.

"Shit." Cass spat, and held ineffectually onto Jade as the nanites coursing though her systems made her spasm and let go.

"Lets see how you like it! You wont be as good a Doctor after I'm through! trying to take my place! Trying to steal my life!" Tara's voice echoed in the room from the medical robot as with a hiss the laser cutter kicked into life.

"I didn't. I wouldn't. I'm sorry!" Jade babbled, curling up to try and prise the grip of the arm holding her in the air off her leg. She grunted with the effort, but it was useless.

"Sorry doesn't cut it now! Ha! Get it? Cut it?" Tara giggled gleefully as the laser cutter sailed through the air and hissed through the muscle and bone of Jade's upper left arm.

There was the numb feeling of disassociation before the smell of burning flesh and pain hit her.

Jade screamed.

The laser cutter moved in again for another strike.
