Who:Ray...and a few scutters (subtle foreshadowing)
Where: Maintenance Bay
When: Just after Dolly was sabotaged.
Ray sat in the Pilot's chair of the dismantled Starbug sound asleep. The oil had dried to his uniform and he still needed a shower and a shave badly but he couldn't get any water without charging. The same went for razors so he hadn't tried yet. He didn't remember eating recently but he wasn't worried about that. That was normal. Yes, he was asleep. The starbug's coffee was a sick joke. They had done the evil thing to it. It was decaffeinated. Ray had known as soon as he had tasted it and promptly spit the mouthful out but he had not be able to find an alternate source of caffeine (OK OK I will stop rambling)
"Excuse me sir but I am going to have to ask you to leave the Maintenance Bay." The voice came from behind Ray and he had wakened quietly and turned.
"Why is that? I have every right to be here. The same right as any other Pilot or mechanic." Ray asked
"than you didn't hear the announcement?" Said the person.
"No and what is a cook doing in the Maintenance Bay?"
"We were assigned a new captain...She has been compared to Adolf Hitler. She has also reassigned everyone to new jobs at which they have no experience." Said the cook.
"I see. A smart woman." Ray than stopped and tried to think of something smart about reassigning everyone on board. "Everyone will get...new experience."
"Sure. I just want to get out of this mess and get back to my kitchen." "And was that any better?"
"No."
"Do you know where I am assigned?"
"No."
"OK. I am going to ask holls where I should go and I will be out of your hair. Holls! Holly? what the smegg?" Ray than steeped up to one of Holly's consols "Hello in thair?" That was when Holly appeared trying his best to look like Dolly
"I am sorry but Holly...errr...Dolly is busy right now assisting people to fill out forms stating that the captain is a smegghead as well as reassignment forms. Please leave a message after the bleep. BLEEP!"
Ray than began to fell worried what was all this Dolly stuff. "Holly. Ray Durron here. Could you tell me where I am assigned when you get a chance? Please?" Suddenly the image changed a little and Holly/Dolly appeared.
"Do you know you are the first person to say please? That Christler woman said I couldn't answer to Holly anymore ... sorry about that. uh what did you want? oh yah where are you assigned? says here scutter cleaning and repainting detail. apparently rather an important job as you are fairly high up in the chain of command. everyone on the ship is above you except the vending machine repair men and the lab mice...unfortunately they have been reassigned to the drive room and the vending machine repairmen are supposed to be in engeneering."
"Holly dose this come with a pay cut?"
"nope...thank God it should but with you they made a special arrangement...well not they. Yah it was them I am sorry...well I got to run now guys looks like something interesting is going on in the med-bay...oh wait it is the phsyce-bay. my mistake. Cya dudes"
"is it just me or is Holly becoming more senile than ever?" Ray said to no one in particular as the cook had gone off to his other cook friends and was gesturing emphatically at the floor. Ray picked up his jacket and sunglasses than looped his towel through his belt and picked up the toothbrush that Holly had found for him. Ray than walked out of the Mantiance Bay fairly calmly disguising his disgust at the thought of cleaning the Scutters. He did know where they had been. but orders were orders. As he began searching the ship any Scutter who know that Ray was assigned where he was fled, so Ray simply started to wander the halls secretly herding all of the scutters into one area.
(Well I guess the scutters didn't make it.)
