An unexpected twist

> "Now, let's continue!" said Cerebrum, pulling on a rubber glove.
> "Whatever is that for?" asked Jay.
"It's non conductive, it won't transmit electricity when I do this next
thing," Cerebrum replied, completely failing to reassure his patients.
"The chairs you're strapped into are part of a very cunning device called a
mind-swapper. It's a piece of alien technology I found last year, and I've
decided to make the second test on you. The first test resulted in my
becoming Lenin and conquering half the ship. Now, what this device can do is
take two people, and put their minds in each other's bodies. Essentially,
you'll be in a different body. I feel that this will help you by giving you
a different perspective, and then I'll switch you back to normal. It has
never failed before. Except for the first time I tried it. Which was the
only time. So it has failed before, but I've fixed that problem, and I
wasn't using it properly the first time either. Don't worry, it's completely
safe."
Cerebrum looked up as the screaming started. "Oh, and don't move or scream
for a few minutes, okay? Otherwise your brains will come out your ears,"
then returned to the controls. A minute later, and he was done.
"Okay, hold still, and don't say a thing," Cerebrum said, flipping the final
switch. The lights went out in the room, and then bolts of energy shot out
of a large device on the ceiling, each one hitting a pilot on the forehead,
harmlessly and painlessly transferring the mind to the computer, and then to
another body.
A minute later, the screaming died down.
"Now, I told you not to scream. Fortunately, you don't appear to have
suffered any permanent damage," Cerebrum said, coughing and waving away the
clouds of smoke that had come out of the machine. "Now, Dean appears to be
in Amber's body, Amber is in Jay's body, Jay is in Rio's body, Rio is in
Efof's body, Efof is in Kara's body and Kara is in Dean's body. Lovely. Now,
let's wait a minute and then I'll switch you back.
He waited a minute, then said. "Now I'll switch you back. I just have to
push this button here, which will cause the green light to come on."
A red light came on. "That's not good. Let's try this again."
He pushed the button again, and, with loud zapping noise, the control panel
melted, the primary computer caught fire and the chairs fell apart. "Oh
smeg," Cerebrum announced. "We have a tiny problem. You're trapped in each
other's bodies until I can get the machine fixed. But, on the plus side, I'm
pronouncing that you're all cured."
