McJohn's Shout !!!!!

OOC: (There is an IC post below!)The Crows! Oh dear god, not AFL … that’s worse then cricket. There were only 3 Aussies in the group (including me) when I first joined up last time, Chris and his cousin being the other two. Chris lives in the same street as my aunt and uncle. How freaking small is this world or what! After posting last night I went back to when I used to be aboard reading the old posts. I made myself laugh, I don’t remember ever being a funny person. Funny that. Oh, it’s good to be back! I only left last time due to lack of time to be on the internet. I’ve always had a quick look over the last couple of years of being away. This group will always be special to me. Now enough sensitive boo ha ha, on with posting.
Who: Guinevere Winters, Mark McJohn & Eric LustbaderWhere: ParrottsWhen: Blue Dwarf appears to be in danger but not mortal danger, well at lets its not code brown.
<<SNIP>>"What?" Eric was aware that someone had said something. "I said, can someone point me to the nearest bar? I'm sorry if I was to loud or something." "Sorry, I wasn't paying attention. I'm heading to Parrott's myself anyway, it's just over there. It's where most people go to at various times of the day. It does get a bit crowded in the evenings though, but it should be fairly quiet now."<<END SNIP>>
She said ‘sorry’ not really meaning it, being new she had to appear polite until she got use to her surroundings … well until someone pissed her off or she was too T-Total to be polite anymore. Plus the man was older then her, possibly an officer and he was taking her to a bar. He wasn’t too bad looking either, she liked glasses on a guy, but his moustache left little to be desired. She removed her official JMC regulation cap from her head and walked behind the man with her cap under arm and her hands behind her back. She didn’t bother paying attention to where she was going as the only routes on this ship that would become important to her were the route between her quarters and a bar and her work station(s) and a bar.
<<SNIP>>"Oh, thanks." Guinevere replied. "I just arrived here. Can you tell me where 'here' is? I've just been in stasis." "Where are you from?" Eric asked, as they neared the bar. "Oh, Mars." "Well, we were recently near the Hymenopteran home-world, and we are in the middle of a large scale war at the moment, and we had to use our wormhole to return to Earth." Eric said. "I'm from Ganymede myself. I'm Armoury Officer Eric Lustbader." "Oh, I'm Guinevere Winters. I'm an engineer." "I'm sure Chief Engineer McJohn would look forward to meeting you. He's sitting over there." Eric pointed, just as they entered the bar.<<END SNIP>>
The whole being in the middle of a large scale war with a bug planet didn’t phase her, not that she had much to do with wars before, wars always meant lots of broken equipment for her to fix, she grinned slightly. Guinevere looked over to where Eric had pointed and had a good look at her new boss, she had had all types … beer belly slobs, ridiculous facial haired sleazes and even a the rather lanky and nerdy. McJohn didn’t appear to be like any of those, he even looked to be around her own age and easy going. Most people would have freaked running into their boss on their first day of skiving reporting in and would probably lie and say they were only in the bar looking for their said boos, but Guinevere wasn’t most people. She saw her boss in Parrotts as an excellent advantage, not only did she get to kill two birds with one stone, well more to the point without even trying but her boss drank, she may have even been acquiring her first lot of
drinking buddies aboard this mining vessel.
<<SNIP>>"What do you drink, Guinevere?" Eric asked, as they approached the bar. "What do you recommend?" Guinevere asked. "Three pints of Guinness, thanks." Eric told the barman. "McJohn's shouting."<<END SNIP>>
Guinevere tried not to look dejected as Eric carried the drinks, she would have liked to have had her first sip at the bar and to have carried her own, but she reminded herself that she was meant to remain polite, for now. She was rather happy in the choice of beverage, it was a decent pint unlike the MD’s she had been forced to endure on the transport vessel, an Earth American excuse for a larger. She began to wonder if Parrotts served any food, a steak and kidney pie would have gone nicely, but then she wasn’t hungry. She snapped out of it when McJohn’s hand was out for her to shake, they had clearly just been introduced.
<<SNIP>>Eric carried the drinks to where Mark McJohn was seated. "Mark McJohn, Guinevere Winters." Eric introduced the two. "Guinevere is our new engineer." Mark and Guinevere shook hands.<<END SNIP>>
“I’d say it’s good to be aboard and under your command, sir … but then I don’t really know that yet do I?” She said leaning across the bar raising an eyebrow at McJohn, then sat back gulped half her beer and put her feet up on a nearby empty chair, tugging at the collar of her JMC black regulation issued uniform. She wasn’t use to something so stuffy and it was the first time it had been worn, it was starchy and with ironed in creases, Guinevere had never even picked up an iron before.McJohn gave her a hint of a grin, while Lustbader proceeded to talk about himself which she didn’t mind, you had to listen to all sorts of things to learn.
<<SNIP>>"I was considering becoming an engineer myself, but they made me become Armoury Officer." "What does that entail?" Guinevere asked. "Well, first I had to organise the armoury, which took a couple of weeks. It was a mess, and not one item was written down. Although, after I got over the shock of finding a blunderbuss, it wasn't too difficult. Now I sign out the weapons if someone needs to use one. That is only during an emergency or shore leave, when some of the crew go hunting." "What for?" "Jail time so they don't have to return." "Oh. I see." "During most emergencies though, I usually end up in the drive room or amongst the action. I'm glad they didn't put me in security though." "Why? Usually people love to be a macho soldiers." "Not on here, well not for more than a couple of weeks. we go through more security officers than Macca’s goes through teenage employees."<<END SNIP>>
Guinevere took note of Eric’s choice of words, he sounded like a man of order not chaos, she wondered how long any drinking friendship would last, the only place she liked order was her own quarters (That she hadn’t seen yet) and Lustbader wasn’t going there any time soon.Hearing that the crew would try and get themselves thrown into jail while on shore leave didn’t surprise her as much as she would have thought that it would, she had heard that long periods of time on a vessel such as this sent you mad.
She gave a light chuckle, “That doesn’t surprise me much.” Downing the last of her beer, “Security is such a fickle department, you have to deal with too many people … machines are more reliable and easier to control.” She said shrugging, she liked machines more then people, machines didn’t complain when you took them apart to see what’s inside. She wondered who’s round it next as the two men also had finished their drinks.
<<SNIP>>By this time, the three had finished their drinks. "Another three, thanks." Mark yelled to the barman. "This one will be my shout." The barman shrugged and brought three more drinks.<<END SNIP>>
Guinevere smiled at Eric, she had seen what he had done with the rounds, she liked his style.
<<SNIP>>"I was recently promoted to Chief Engineer." Mark said. "Our engineering department is actually fairly busy, as JMC and the Space Corps seem to give us another task or piece of technology each week. And with the wormhole drive, there's a lot of work. What doesn't help is that the Space Corps expects us to be at the forefront of every skirmish while being expected to do many other duties such as exploration and science work." "Tell us more about yourself?" Eric asked, as he ordered two more rounds.<<END SNIP>>

She liked the sound of all the work that could be possibly required of her, she enjoyed her job and was actually looking forward to getting started, she was glad to hear that she had stepped aboard a mining vessel with a busy engineering department. She would get to work with things she had only heard of and the possibly of away missions thrilled her to bits.
“About myself … hmmm …” Guinevere paused thinking about what to divulge.
“That is what he asked.” McJohn quipped.
Guinevere grinned behind her glass, she preferred bosses who could dish it out, she took a large sip before setting it down, deciding upon what to say. “Well I’m from Mars, born there, grew up there. My parents are nerd’s … scientist’s and working on Mars and Uranus for JMC, I can’t stand my mother and dad’s not much better. I’m one of five, only girl though Reece died four years ago and Christopher died a couple of months back.” She paused to take another swig to cease getting emotional over her brothers, it was bad enough that Reece’s death had sent Griffith weird and away, but to have lost Chris as well, thankfully Stuart was always around, he was as fun as he was gay.
“I’m sorry.” Lustbader said, raising his glass and drinking, McJohn did the same.
“Don’t be.” Guinevere said after likewise raising her glass and taking a sip, she hated people saying sorry, especially when they had no reason to be. “You didn’t kill them … Reece was working on viruses with Griffith, one of my other brother’s in their spare time, he’s lucky his virus was only in it’s early stages and so didn’t spread. Christopher was a Flyboy, need I say more.”
“Tell me about these Hymenopteran, I haven’t heard of them before.” Guinevere said changing the morbid subject. She didn’t realise that she was happily drinking the ships ammo against the Hymenopteran, but then she properly wouldn’t have cared if she knew.
<TAG Lustbader or McJohn or Anyone, does it really matter who replies, it’s a bar after all, god knows who’s in there.>
OOC: Nah you didn’t ramble, you’ll get use to my long posts and my habit of extensive use of <<snips>> to add my two cents.I’ve got to get use to power playing again, having been in Harry Potter groups that rule it out, so it may be a little while for me to get back in the swing of good Blue Dwarf posting. My goodness Hymenopteran/Hymenoptera are real worlds, I thought that Onion and/or had made it up. Oh well, you learn something new every day.
