Dangerous Talk

(OOC – Randel Cartwright is quite an addition to the game!)

Dalen Woodland, Morning of 2 DSTR –

Kalena frowned thoughtfully as she listened to Lafayette sum up his life, more than hinting at what he was all about, and she sensed the ring of truth in it. Everyone had sad tales of woe, in this harsh world most had been through something terrible, and whilst some might have been transformed into a tough and cynical survivor, he spoke of idealism, of the positive changes one individual could make in their society.

"Any life lived changes the world some how. No matter how small you see it, no matter how small the world sees it. A change is a change," Lafayette said a smirk crossing his face. "That is why I came here. I made changes in my home land, I want to help made a difference her too," he explained speaking to Kalena like he was talking to a crowd of supporters.

She was however not so receptive an audience as he might have hoped, quite loyal to the current regime as she happened to be. Her reactions were nullified whilst she listened. She even contrived a smile on her face to mask her true feelings on the matter.

"You sound like some sort of rebel or reformer. That certainly explains your earlier discretion about your motives for coming to Dalen." Kalena nodded her head in sympathetic understanding, even as she contemplated killing Lafayette right then and there. The last thing Dalen needed was another rebel.

But she thought that perhaps she ought to instead cultivate the man's friendship and trust, as when he eventually made contact with one of Dalen's homegrown rebel factions such as the Rising Star and joined them, she would then have someone with an in with their organization, which would be highly useful in helping to one day roll them all up once and for all. "You need to be careful to who you speak with about this," Kalena warned him in a conspiratorial whisper. "Your talk of coming to Dalen to make a difference might sound innocent and commendable to some, but could sound really rather seditious to others. The Queen has eyes and ears everywhere, and no tolerance for dissent. Kline himself holds the Queen in high regard, and it was she who gifted him with his title and vineyard for his distinguished service to her." She shook her head mournfully. "But I have seen so many injustices and acts of tyranny first hand; I privately welcome anyone with the commitment to risk their life to try to make things better, let alone someone who has come as far to do so as you have."

She raised the tin cup in a salute to Lafayette and took a sip. "This is very good tea," she murmured. "Like something from Horo's Curios..."
